College Student Leadership team - WAAM report
College Captains
Wow! MSJ does not slow down! We firstly want to welcome our Seriei Japanese Students to Australia and into our College Community! ようこそ! We hope you all have enjoyed the Josephite values we show here and our warm hospitality. We want to congratulate the Ministry Team and Penola House for their fantastic sausage sizzle to raise money for the White Ribbon Foundation. MSJ continues to keep all of those who have experienced domestic violence in our prayers, as we all unite as one to create awareness. We also congratulate the Arts Team for the organisation of yet another amazing MSJ’s Got Talent! Well done to all the students who participated in the annual event; we applaud you all!
As the 2017/2018 College Leadership is coming to an end, Dhriti and I would like to thank everyone who has participated in all of the activities the College has hosted so far this year, and personally thank the WAAM and SLT for their fantastic cooperation over the past year. We want to welcome the 2018/2019 College Leaders with open arms and one key piece of advice: A leader does not lead the group, but rather offers a hand up, and guides everyone to reach their goals.

Wellbeing
In this last term of the 2018 Student Leadership Team the Wellbeing portfolio is aiming to put on a multitude of activities for students to participate in. The main one being that the wellbeing portfolio with the help of other student leaders will be putting on a mental health week during September to encourage good mental health habits and conversation at our school. We look forward to putting on lunchtime activities that include meditation, comedy and puzzles! Also coming up for the wellbeing portfolio this term includes Year 12 vs Staff dodgeball and possibly a lunchtime gym program. We hope to continue to put on fun interactive activities for the remainder of this term so stay tuned for more information. There is also a 6 week program being offered to Year 12 students to help reduce stress over the last months of our schooling. Year 12 students can email svance@msj.vic.edu.au if they are interested in this program.

Academic
With the last term of duty for the 2018 Student Leadership, be sure to see a lot happen in Term 3! The Academic portfolio has planned a Staff vs Students “Have you been paying attention?” Be sure to come along to the MMC on 24 August to see if MSJ Staff and students have been paying attention to worldwide issues. Coming up in August is Book Week, make sure to check out the Learning Resource Centre for competitions that will be running throughout the week.
Furthermore, we will continue running weekly Tutoring Tuesday sessions to ensure students receive the best support for their academic needs. Homework Club is also open to students who prefer to stay and study in the library after school everyday.

Arts
To kick start this term, the Arts team began our MSJ’s Got Talent Auditions. With over 72 initial private auditions, we were able to have 21 acts move into the second round of auditions. Last week we had acts ranging from bands to contortionists to comedy dance groups. With such a great crowd turn out, the Arts Team were very busy trying to create a really fun and inviting place for students to keep out of the cold and for students to perform. After sending out a voting poll to all the students, the 21 acts were cut down to the Top 10. At the end of Mary MacKillop’s Feast Day, our Top 10 acts all performed to the best of their abilities. We want to congratulate everyone who auditioned. Finally we want to congratulate our equal 3rd place winner Charlotte Byrne & The Leftovers, our 2nd place winner Alyssa Staropoli, and Adelle Horvath & Chloe Evangelista and finally a MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO MSJ’S GOT TALENT 1ST PLACE WINNER Charlize Providel-Olguin!

Ministry
The Ministry Team has been working hard recently supporting the Penola House Captains with their ministry of choice which was the White Ribbon Foundation. In order to raise money and awareness for this issue, we decided to have a domestic violence awareness week at MSJ. The activities throughout the week consisted of a lunchtime BBQ (which raised $473.70 which will be donated to the White Ribbon Foundation) and a student/teacher Q&A panel to discuss different aspects of domestic violence.
We have recently celebrated JJAMM (Joseph, Julian and Mary MacKillop) week. There were lunchtime activities everyday throughout the week including a jam donut eating competition, a JJAMM knowledge kahoot, a Mary MacKillop fact finding scavenger hunt and a shared lunch. During the week, we also celebrated the Feast Day of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop which began with a whole school Mass, followed by a fete in which each class had their own stall selling food, lollies, raffle tickets etc, to raise money for the Mary MacKillop Today Foundation, who continue the work of the Sisters of Saint Joseph by educating the poor and marginalised in Australia as well as developing countries. It was great to see all the students get into the spirit of Feast Day and put lots of effort into their class stalls.
