Feast Day
Feast Day is a day of community gathering, of joy, and celebrating the amazing talents of MSJ. Though we have a fun day filled with food, and prizes, we must not forget Mary MacKillop and her contribution to our world.

Feast Day to us means, coming together as a Catholic school community to celebrate the life of Mary MacKillop.

The College came together on Wednesday 8 August to celebrate our College’s special day, the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. As a Josephite school, our connection to Mary MacKillop goes beyond the fact that we share a common religious tradition or nationality. As founder of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, the religious order that began Mount St Joseph’s Girls’ College, we have a special connection to this important Australian saint.
Our day began in Learning Mentor Groups where the students participated in activities centred around the work of Mary MacKillop Today, a newly merged umbrella organisation for the work of three previous Josephite charitable organisations. The money will go to support the work of Mary MacKillop Today in East Timor.
We gathered for Mass led by Fr John Healy of the Laverton Catholic Parish. In his homily, he challenged us to reflect on what Mary MacKillop might have to say to us today in our lives. The students were led by beautiful singing and music from MSJ Voices and the Year 11 & 12 RE Music classes and led in prayer and worship by students from various year levels who offered their talents to be involved in various ministries in the Mass.
The theme of our College this year is, “Let Joy ignite Us” and the day was certainly a joyous one, witnessing the students setting up and partaking in fundraising stalls before concluding the day with a great celebration of talent and fun with our annual MSJ’s Got Talent Final. Congratulations to the winners.
JJAMM Week
JJAMM Week is the annual celebration of three important figures in the charism of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart: St Joseph, Julian (Tenison Woods) and Mary MacKillop. While the highlight of the week is our Feast Day celebrating the feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, students have participated in various lunchtime activities on the other days including a trivia competition around the life of Mary Mackillop, a scavenger hunt of religious items as well as our annual jam donut eating competition involving staff and students. Well done to the Ministry Team students and Kincumber House Leaders for their organisation of these activities.
Mary MacKillop Today Dinner
