SCSA Football
On 26 July, 30 girls selected from juniors and seniors headed out to Highett to represent our school in the SCSA AFL Division 2. Leading up to the day we had many training sessions, where we learnt how to tackle, handball and kick a ball. Once we got there, we had a slight warm up and headed straight onto the ground. Our first game was our first proper game as a team, so we had to work really hard to perform our best.
Overall both juniors and seniors finished 3rd in our group but we did play well. As the day went on, both teams won and lost games but we all played our best and worked well as a team. I would like to thank Mr Piazza, Sue, Kerry , Ms Baka and Mr Meilak who assisted us on the day and during trainings, without you we would not be playing a higher division or knowing how to play AFL , we all learnt a lot!

Footy Frenzy
Footy Frenzy Week was two days of AFL activities on 1 and 2 August that I organised to show women can be more involved in all sorts of sporting activities. The longest kick was the most popular activity, but the handball competition was fun also, and we gave away prizes to all students who participated. Some teachers participated as well which was great.

Helping Out Our Community
Sacred Heart Althletics Day
On 26 July, a group of MSJ students who previously were Sacred Heart Primary School students helped out at the Sacred Heart Primary School’s Athletic Carnival at the Newport Athletics Track.
The MSJ students all had duties assisting the teachers in charge of each sporting activity. This included setting up the track with the required equipment, measuring, raking sand, timing and handing out ribbons.
We also assisted the teachers by managing the children participating in the event by making sure the participants were in the correct allocated sporting area, participants were lined up in order of the winners and collecting score sheets back and forth as well as keeping score and times of participants in the sport.
We all thought that the day was enjoyable and worthwhile participating in as we got to experience the efforts and hard work needed to make the day a success. It was also great to see our old teachers again.

St Mary’s Williamstown Athletics Day 2018
On 2 August eight MSJ students helped out at Newport athletics track for St Mary’s Primary Williamstown Athletics Day.
Mrs Sofarnos drove the MSJ Bus and the girls helped with many activities and thoroughly enjoyed the new experience with some students returning to see their former teachers and peers. We worked throughout the day assisting teachers and encouraging students in the various track and field events including discuss, hurdles, 200/100metre sprint, high jump, long jump and triple jump. It was a great event and everyone enjoyed helping out throughout the day and would gladly do it again next year.
