Touch Rugby National Championships
On October 20, the Under 12 and Under 15 boys and girls State Touch Rugby teams landed in Hobart, Tasmania. The Touch Rugby National Championships began on Monday October 22, with my team having two games. First up we faced the ACT. It was our first game and was try for try the whole way through with a final result of 5-5. Later in the day we faced the challenge of NSW where I scored the first and only try for WA. The final score was 1-13 to NSW.
The next day we had three games. First we had VIC where I scored two tries and we came away with our first win with a final score of 9-3. Later in the day was NT where we claimed our second win 11-2. The last game of day was against the host team, Tasmania, when we came away with our third win 8-4. On the next day of competition we faced SA with a final score of 2-7 to WA. Next we were up against the reigning champions, QLD. We were lucky enough to score against them but the end result was 15-1 to QLD. The last game of the day was, once again, against QLD for the semi-finals where we lost 16-1.
The last day of the championships was what my team had been working for, for a long six months. It was the bronze medal match. After working so hard the WA Under 15 girls really wanted that bronze medal. After fighting hard the entire game, ACT were the better team, but only just with a final score of 6-4. Overall it was a great tournament for WA with the Under 12 girls, Under 12 boys and Under 15 girls finishing 4th. The Under 15 boys were good enough to take out a bronze medal. I walked out of the tournament with four tries, great friendships and an amazing experience.

ACC Letters
It was remiss of me in the last newsletter not to acknowledge some outstanding efforts by two Canons athletes. MJ Jansen van Rensburg and Lubin Benedict both achieved ACC Letters for their performances in the ACC Athletics Carnival, which is the highest individual honour the ACC awards.
In order to be eligible for Letters, a student must make the ACC All Star team in the same sport for a period of four years. ACC All Stars is a commendable achievement once, so to make this team in athletics four times and receive Letters is a tremendous achievement.
Congratulations MJ and Lubin, you will receive your award at the Canons Specialised Basketball and Sporting Awards Night.
