Thank you to the GECPA

Thank you so much to the Glen Eira College Parents Association for their generous donation to the College’s Instrumental Music Program. With the funds they raised in 2016 at their successful Trivia Night event, we have been able to buy a range of new instruments and accessories, including a tenor saxophone, an additional electronic drum-kit, two violins and a viola. These additions are greatly appreciated, and will be used by GEC music students now and into the future.

2017 School Production

Planning is underway for this year’s School Production - we can’t reveal what it is yet, but we do want to let staff, students, parents and carers that it is happening! Lock in these dates now – performance week will be in week 5 of term 3, with evening performances on Tuesday 15th August, Wednesday 16th August and Thursday 17th August.

We are hoping to have student meetings and auditions before the end of term 1, and rehearsals will begin on Tuesdays and Thursdays in term 2. Opportunities exist to participate for all students, staff and parents; regardless of previous experience.

Students who are interested in participating in either the production cast or crew, stay tuned for announcements on the bulletin. Parents and carers who are interested in volunteering their time or skills to help out with this year’s production, please contact Ms Laura Baker-Goldsmith by either email (lbg@gec.vic.edu.au) or phone on 9571 7838.

Instrumental Music at GEC

Introducing some of our talented woodwind students. Our woodwind teacher Mr Mark Dipnall has been working hard with the flute, clarinet and saxophone students since the beginning of the year and is starting up a concert band next term. The concert band (to be conducted by Mr Dipnall) is open to all GEC students who play a woodwind or brass instrument, as well as any student percussionists. The concert band will rehearse in the PAC on Mondays after school from 3.30pm-4.30pm.
