Multicultural Picnic – 7th March

Many Glen Eira College families enjoyed a sublime summer’s evening in the school garden with a variety of delicious food from our many family backgrounds and catching up with school friends and making new ones. Two parents with kids just started at GEC met again for the first time since their primary school days!

New items from our fundraising

Our secondhand uniform stall in January raised $2,137, which entirely covered the cost of a defibrillator.  The college and the parents association agreed that this is an important piece of equipment to have available in the event of a medical emergency. The new defibrillator is now in the administration area.

Last year's Trivia Night raised over $12,000. The college has just spent $5,000 of this on musical instruments and related supplies:

A Yamaha Tenor Sax

2 Stentor Violins

A Yamaha Electronic Drumkit

A Stentor Viola

Wolf violin/viola shoulder rests

Neotech Soft Sax Neck Straps

Neotech Sox Harness

Reeds, drumsticks, guitar picks & power supplies

Plans are now being made to spend the remaining money from the Trivia Night on new outdoor seating for the area behind the Performing Arts Centre.

Party in the Park Allnut Park 19th March

Glen Eira College Parents Association held a stall at the festival to raise funds for the college. In keeping with the pet theme of the festival, we sold homemade dog biscuits and animal-themed craft kits for kids as well as sno-cones and jams made by parents.

School Crossing Safety Campaign

We are continuing to raise awareness of the danger of the Booran Road school crossing with the media and government.  You may have noticed the eye-catching banners recently hung up on the corner of Neerim and Booran Roads.

If you haven't yet signed our online petition, please do it now.  Go to

Weekly walk and talk:

We have a social walking group which meets once a week to walk and chat for about an hour.  We meet on Tuesday evenings (weather permitting) at 7:30pm at the corner of Crosbie and Murrumbeena Roads at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve.

So that we can keep in contact, we have set up a messaging group on Whatsapp. To join the group, just email us your name and phone number.  (If you don't already have Whatsapp installed on your smartphone, you will need to do that first -it's very easy to install and to use).

Bicycles

Gran Prix Bicycles offer school families a 5% discount and 5% donation back to Glen Eira College.  Collect a loyalty card from the school office and present it in store at Gran Prix Cycles, Glenhuntly Rd, Caulfield South.

Rubbish-free healthy lunch box ideas Glen Eira Council

Thursday, 30 March 2017 7:30- 9:30PM Glen Eira Town Hall

It is estimated that each school child is responsible for creating more than 30kg of waste from their lunchbox each year. We can help reduce the amount of packaging sent to landfill using reusable packaging, buying in bulk and choosing healthy food options as many come in their own packaging! This interactive session will offer great recipe ideas and tips to help prepare rubbish free, healthy lunches for children, including take home recipes and samples to taste on the night.
