Careers News

Welcome back to 2019.  Term 1 has already seen several career related events, with a lot more to come.

Earlier this week, fifteen Year 11 students travelled to Wollongong and Sydney with Mr Northey and myself.  We attended the University of Wollongong's Discovery Day 2019 program with over 1000 students from high schools across NSW after spending a night in campus accommodation to get a taster of uni life.  We also visited Macquarie University, UNSW, University of Sydney and the North Sydney campus of Australian Catholic University. Students were able to learn about various courses, scholarships, uni life and various Early Entry Schemes available to them.

Careers Talks for 2019

This week also sees the first optional Careers talk for 2019. This will be on Friday at recess on Gap  Years: what to consider and what you need to know.

Work Experience in 2019

This year, due to time factors, Work Experience opportunities will focus on students who are looking at apprenticeships and traineeships when they leave school and those who need to do it for entry into university courses eg medicine.

There is a clearly defined step by step process which students and their parents must follow for Work Experience to satisfy legal and school requirements. All students in Years 9-12 will be told this process during this week and next week.  It takes time to complete all the steps and paperwork involved.

Information for Students and Parents

Information on jobs, scholarships, excursions, deadlines, guest speakers, university options, holiday workshops will be communicated via:

-morning notices

-Google Classrooms

-MCC newsletters

-McCarthy Careers Facebook page  so parents can LIKE and follow this to keep in the loop.

Some will be mentioned on only one channel, others will be mentioned across two or three.  Students are asked to be vigilant in reading and listening to notices in order not to miss out on information and opportunities.

I look forward to working with students and parents to assist them with career information so our students can make a successful transition from school to employment or further education.
