Year 12 Melbourne Drama Study Tour

During the first week of the first term holidays the Year 12 Drama students participated in a series of workshops run by tutors at the Victorian College of the Arts. Each day they were involved in improvisation, play building and performance tasks centred around physical explorations, performance making and rhythm and sound. These intensive workshops challenged the students to create work quickly, to trust their instincts and to move out of their comfort zones whilst working with students from other schools.

The group also viewed nightly performances and plays as part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival. One Stand Up Comedy show was performed by Alumni student Xavier Michelides (Class of 1999), who included references to his time at the College. At the end of the week, the students performed a sample of their work from the week to an appreciative audience of Arts Lecturers.

Once the workshops were over the students spent ‘Friday Fun Day’ together and then had a day of shopping before flying home on Saturday night. It was a highly successful week and the students were great ambassadors for the College. They demonstrated great passion, energy, focus, discipline, commitment and talent in all aspects of the week. Their performance work was mature and creative and full of joy.
