Year Six News

Written by the Year Six Team

Dear Families,

End of Term Three

The Year Six teachers would like to congratulate all students for their hard work and resilience this term. We were very proud to see many of our students turning up to each and every lesson throughout the remote learning period and submitting work consistently through Schoolbox. We are very proud of our students’ commitment to their learning throughout this difficult term. We have our fingers crossed to be able to welcome our students back in term four and conclude their primary years with some exciting activities.

Year 6 Master Class

We have had another few successful weeks of our teacher master class with the year 5 students and teachers joining in to create a few additional classes. This week, students enthusiastically participated in Crafts with Ms Hunter and Ms Goegan, Boxing with Ms Fatouros, ‘What are the Odds’ with Mr Howarth, Science with Mr Nicolaides, Cooking with Ms Spies and Ms P, onsite card games with Ms Grenfell and Cardboard box modelling with Mr Naidoo. It was great to see students getting excited about these activities and the many parents participating as well! Students were especially surprised during ‘What are the Odds’ to learn about their very low chances of winning big in Macca’s Monopoly.

Parliamentary Education Office Incursion

This week, students participated in a virtual incursion with the Parliamentary Education Office in Canberra, ACT. This venue, located within Parliament House, focuses on helping students to learn about the processes that take place inside of the Senate and House of Representatives. During their incursion, students reviewed many of the concepts their learned within their recent Unit of Inquiry such as representation, formation of government and law making as well as visited some new concepts such as active citizenship and the Australian Constitution. Students were very engaged in the incursion and had many great questions for the presenters.

Mathematics Outside the Unit of Inquiry

In our final week of term, students have begun a new unit of mathematics. Within the area of Measurement and Geometry, students will be investigating into the area of Geometric Reasoning, Pythagoras and Trigonometry. All students have been added to fluid groups based on their independent level so teachers can adjust learning and be able to target learning to each individual’s needs.

Thank you,

Ms Spies, Ms Grenfell, Ms Fatouros, Ms Pietrapertosa and Mr Nicolaides
