Year Four News

Written by the Year Four Team

Dear families

With term 3 coming to a close, the year 4 team are incredibly proud of our students. We would like to congratulate all families for being flexible and adaptable through what has been tricky times. To celebrate, the year 4 team has planned themed days for the last 3 days. This is pictured on your class school box page and below.

Reading Groups

Reading groups have continued to be a big highlight, where students work with different teachers to suit their individual learning needs. We have wrapped up our author study on all of Chris Van Allsburg’s wonderful books. Students have been working through a range of different comprehension strategies which will help set us up for a successful term 4. Finally, we want to congratulate all the students who finished the premiers reading challenge and encourage students to read and record as many books as you can. The reading challenge finishes on the last day of Term Three.

Unit of Inquiry 4

We are now in the middle of our Unit of Inquiry 4, ‘where we are in place and time’, which focuses on the central idea of ‘Historical events have revolutionised technological advances in space exploration’. Students have participated in a number of class provocations and thinking routines. One of the many fun activities students have been involved in is becoming an engineer for the day and creating their own spacecraft. Students were encouraged to create this in 3D and we can’t wait to see some of your designs.

Other news

During remote learning this term we have been creating courses where students can upload their work. This has been a great success, as it allows us to give students timely feedback on all of their wonderful work. Please reach out to your class teacher should you require any assistance with this.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our camp for term 4 due to Covid restriction. However rest assured we are working hard to make sure we have some fun activities throughout term 4, stay tuned for these.

Below are some pictures of our cupcake and cookie contest for you to enjoy.

We would like to wish all families and students a safe and happy term 3 break. Looking forward to starting fresh in term 4 with the warmer weather.
