Dear Saltwater Community,

What a term it has been! First and foremost, I would like to thank the entire Saltwater community for your compassion, patience, understanding and support throughout what has been a very different and difficult Term 3.

At Saltwater we prepare our students for success in an ever-changing world and that is exactly what we have been doing during this pandemic.

Our objective at Saltwater College has not waivered since the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have still been able to:

  1. Offer high quality education within a supportive and understanding environment through an online platform 'Schoolbox'
  2. Provide evidence-based Literacy and Numeracy Instruction, Teaching and Learning through our consistent approach to teaching remotely.
  3. Offer an exclusive Performing Arts, Visual Communication and Sporting program that develops students' intellectual, social, emotional, and physical wellbeing through the incorporation of Specialist and Wellbeing days.
  4. Offer Production Based Learning such as Robotics and Coding and to increase students’ creativity, innovation, and problem solving skills. This has been done through the implementation of a 'Gamezone' Schoolbox page which has features coding games designed by our very own students.
  5. Offer a Personalised Learning model through goal setting which promotes a sense of self-mastery allowing each individual to reach their full potential. Each child has continued to set goals remotely and upload their pieces to their portfolio page.
  6. Offer an Inquiry-Based Learning model that develops critical and creative learners who actively engage in the learning process to acquire knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes in order to promote student voice, agency, and student-led action. This has been achieved through the implementation of the Unit of Inquiry pages on Schoolbox where our teaching staff have been able to explicitly teach and showcase student wonderings.

From all of the leadership group at Saltwater College, I would like to sincerely pass on my thanks and gratitude to our community. This has been a TEAM effort by everyone involved with our organisation.

Finally, I would like to take this time to thank two of our teaching staff who are taking some time away from Saltwater College.

Firstly, we say a thank you and goodbye to our very own Miss Veronica Mikulic who has decided to take some leave with her partner. We wish Veronica all the very best with her future endeavours.

Secondly, although we didn't get to say our normal farewell to our very own Mrs Angela Bervanakis, we wish her well as she begins her maternity leave. Babies bring such joy and happiness to a family. We will miss you while you're gone but want nothing but the best for you and your family. We cant wait to hear the news of the safe arrival of 'Baby Bervanakis'.

Stay safe,

Regards,

Michael Nicolaides
