Year 11's
Farm has been very busy in the last couple weeks with our Year 11's busy completing the different requirements due:
Dowerin Field Day
Year 11's & Year 12's had a great opportunity to attend the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days. This is a great agricultural expo that the Year 11 & 12 students were able to seek prospective employers or further education post WACoA Cunderdin. The Field Days showcased businesses offering a wide range of products and services with an opportunity to highlight their capabilities and promote their brand to a targeted audience. Nominated students competed in the wool, sheep judging and fencing competition, which was all practice in preparation for the Royal show in a couple of weeks time.
Katanning Merino Judging Challenge
Wayne Laird, Aaron Cuthbertson, Jack Waters, Oliver McLeary, and George Burt last week headed down to Katanning Merino Judging Challenge & Sheep Handling Experience to compete showing off their skills and knowledge in the Merino Sheep and Wool. This opportunity enhanced their sheep handling skills and provided network opportunities with stud breeders and agricultural industry representatives. The boys did an outstanding job coming home with second prize and huge smiles all-round.
Year 12's
Year 12's have only 4 weeks left with us down on Farm to finish what is required to complete their Certificates - I can't stress enough the need to use your time wisely and work through your plans to achieve all that you can. If any Year 12 or parent has any questions on their requirements to be completed by Week 10, please contact Mrs Corsini.
WorldSkills
Aaron Cuthbertson & Jack Waters are currently competing in the 2021 National World Skills Championships in Perth this week. This event is an Australia-wide competition that is showcasing the select students' talents, benchmarking industry excellences and providing champion skill pathways both at home and around the globe. At the competition, the boys will display greatness, discover potential, and explore skills at Australia’s largest trades and skills competition. Over three action-packed days the boys will have access to an exciting array of interactive events, workshops, and activities. The college is very proud of the boys and wish them the best of luck in what will be a fantastic opportunity.
Weekend Duty Reminder
Completing at least 1 weekend duty roster during Year 11 and 12 is a requirement for the core unit of competency AHCWRK204 - “Work Effectively in the Industry”, which is required to complete Certificate II in Agriculture. When rostered on weekend farm duty, students are required to remain at the College for the whole weekend and are not expected to take any leave for that weekend. To complete weekend duty students must be signed off on a green task sheet and a piggery and livestock observation sheet. Swapping weekend roster is strongly discouraged but in the event this situation arises students must give a valid reason, two weeks’ notice to myself and source another student to replace them.
The roster is accessible to students through daily notices, farm noticeboard, College Chatter and via email. Parents can access the information in the fortnightly College Chatter.
Weekend farm duty is an integral part of your son/daughter’s Certificate II in Agriculture, and without your support, the weekend duty roster is very hard to administer effectively.

Reminder – Students will NOT be granted weekend leave when rostered on Farm Duty. | ||
