From the Principal

This week the Deputy Premier and Education Minister, Mr Merlino, said vaccinating Year 12 students for COVID-19 was a priority for the government, with the aim of vaccinating all final-year students before they start sitting exams on 4 October.  I would like thank Rohan Fitzgerald and his WDHS team for their support in vaccinating our local VCE students and boarders over the past weeks.

For parents or guardians of any Year 12 students who are not yet vaccinated, I implore you to book this as soon as possible to ensure the smooth running of the VCE process.

Also, in light of the State Government's announcement yesterday of an expansion of COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to all students aged 16 and over, I encourage families to book in this vaccination. Let’s seize the initiative while in lockdown to make our school and the Greater Hamilton community a safer place to be. Finally, as we conclude our first week of RLP 6.1, I share a quote Deputy Principal Wellbeing, Kristen Waldron, shared with staff:

When a flashlight grows dim or quits working, do you just throw it away? Of course not. You change the batteries. When a person messes up or finds themselves in a dark place, do you cast them aside? Of course not! You help them change their batteries. Some need AA...attention and affection; some need AAA...attention, affection, and acceptance; some need C....compassion; some need D...direction. And if they still don’t seem to shine...simply sit with them quietly and share your light.

Even in our fortunate community, in regional Victoria, there are people who need our support. Please pause and take the time to help others.

Together, we will see this journey through.

Dr Andrew Hirst
