1/2M

When we went into lockdown several weeks ago, I was hopeful that we would return to the classroom at some point during this term and unfortunately this has not happened. I understand that these transitions are difficult for everyone, however I am so proud of the students' resilience and adaptability during this time. Thank you parents and carers for all your support. The live Maths sessions have also given us another opportunity to connect and learn together. I would like to commend all the students for their commitment to their learning during our live Maths sessions and daily completion of their learning tasks.

Literacy

Our literacy learning tasks have focused on different kinds of storytelling. At SFX, we have our very own author, Miss Melissa. She read her published book ' Luna Leads the Way' to the students, and Miss Melissa discussed how all authors need ideas before writing a story. The students also practised identifying the beginning, middle and end of stories. Aboriginal stories are created and told using symbols. The students became storytellers by choosing Aboriginal symbols, writing all their ideas for each symbol, choosing their best ideas and then writing a story using their symbols and ideas. This has been the perfect pathway into Book Week! This week the students have been engaged in various literacy activities such as live storytelling with Mr Steve and Miss Naomi and activities based on several books.

Maths

In Maths, the students have been learning about multiplication and division. Through the use of concrete materials and real-life objects such as doughnuts and fruit, the students demonstrated their multiplicative thinking by making equal groups, writing repeated addition, describing their groups and writing the number sentence using the magic symbol of X. This week; we have been exploring the concept of division and sharing. In response, the students demonstrated their understanding of this concept by sharing real-life objects into equal parts.

Book Week

On Wednesday morning, we had Zak Zombie, Dorothy, Naomi the Dragon, Fancy Nancy, Willy Wonka, Spiderman and other favourite characters at our morning meeting for the virtual Book Week Parade. It was an absolute delight to see the students dressed up or sharing their favourite books.
