2019 NSW All School Touch

Guyra Central School participated in the Boys and Girls Year 7/8 NSW All School Touch Carnival at Inverell on Tuesday 22nd October.

The girls team participated so well winning their first game against Moree 4-0. In their second game they came up against strong opposition in Holy Trinity (the eventual winners) and went down 5-0. They then defeated Inverell High 5-0 before going down to Glen Innes 3-0.

The boys played exceptionally well all day winning each of their games. They played Glen Innes in the Quarter Finals defeating them 5-1, Defeated Holy Trinity 5-2 in the Semi Finals and in a very close encounter our boys defeated MacIntyre HS 5-4 in the Final.

As a result of the boys victory on Tuesday, they have qualified in the 2019 National School Series NSW Year 7/8 State Final to be held in Penrith on Friday 22nd November  (The Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington).

Congratulations to all players for a fantastic day and demonstrating awesome sportsmanship throughout.

Stage 2 Science

In Stage 2 science we are studying the unit, Feathers, Fur or Leaves. After discussing what makes things living, we went outside to investigate if we could find some living insects outside.

We had a look in different areas around the school. We were lucky to find a number of insects, including a meal worm, moth and ants. When we came back inside we looked up animal fact sheets on the Australian Museum website to try and identify the insects we had found. It was a lot of fun and very interesting. We had a look in different areas around the school.

CAPERS takes exceptional talent from public schools across the north of NSW and gives these students an opportunity to perform at a major event. Along with these performers are those from kindergarten to year 12 who simply love to sing, dance and play music. No auditions for them, just the opportunity and skill development to give them the experience of a lifetime.

CAPERS 2019 will be displaying even more talented students. There is something for everyone in this program: A massed choir of 200 voices: massed dances, tap, and ballet, modern and contemporary: A concert band and musical performers of 80 players: individual items of song, dance and drama. A feature of CAPERS is always the Welcome to Country and Indigenous performances that follow.

This year, for the first time Guyra Central School will feature in the CAPERS CARNIVALE' Spectacular.  Mrs Sarah Farmer along with Savannah Roberts have worked hard with  10 very dedicated Stage 3 dance students to master the choreographed performance which our students will perform along with many other  students from across the region at Capitol Theatre in Tamworth for 2 nights on the 8th and 9th November 2019.

Guyra Central School would like to thank both Mrs Sarah Farmer for her dedication in organising this amazing opportunity for our Stage 3 dance group and thank you to  both Mrs Sarah Farmer and Savannah Roberts for their commitment to working hard to teach the girls the choreography for the show.

Armidale Schools Orienteering Carnival

On Friday the 25th of October Guyra Central School students from years 4, 5 and 6 traveled to Thalgarrah for the annual Armidale Schools Orienteering Carnival. This was Guyra Central Schools first time attending the carnival.

Students were placed into groups of two or three and had to work together as a team to find a series of checkpoints.

Prior to commencing the course each group was supplied with a map on which the locations of all the control points have been marked, electronic device which is "punched" at each control point, and a control description sheet which accurately describes each control point e.g. Termite Mound, small gate, etc. Students had one hour to find all 18 checkpoints.

Rave Brazier and Ella Vidler were first to come over the line for Guyra Central School only taking 28 minutes to cover the 3km course and find all checkpoints.

All groups worked really well as a team encouraging each other and showing excellent sportsmanship.

Overall, Guyra Central School placed 3rd for the day.  Congratulations to all of our participating students.
