Boys AFL

The year 8 boys football team travelled to Le Page Park on Thursday 6th June to participate in the Beachside Divisional Round Robin. The team played 3 games against Elwood, Albert Park and Glen Eira, taking away convincing wins for all 3 rounds. All boys showed fantastic sportsmanship, comradery and an appreciation for their coaches and umpires throughout the day.

We are excited to have the opportunity to be playing in the upcoming Southern Metro Regions.

GO BEAUMARIS!

Year 8 Boys Soccer

The Beauy Year 8 Boys Soccer team faced some extremely tough competition in this year’s inter-school sport challenge.

They contested gallantly winning one of their three games, showing great sportsmanship and effort.

Special mentions go to Ethan Oxley who nearly scored a hat-trick in our winning game, and both Kobe Nadji and Sachin Macdonald who both defended fiercely throughout the tournament.

Year 8 Girls Soccer

Last Thursday, the Year 8 girls’ soccer team represented the school at the Beachside Division SSV Round Robin. The team made a great start to their first game with a 5-0 victory over Elwood, thanks to a brilliant hat-trick by Teah Kenney, midfield play from Chloe Johnson and Margot Worthy and the constant threat from our other striker Charlie Hetherington. The second game was much tighter, with a last minute goal in the first half by Teah helping Beaumaris to a 1-0 win over Mentone Girls Secondary College. The defensive unit of Bella Margheriti, Gracie Gao, Eabha Joyce, Claudia Chmara and Sophie Joyce with OJ Thapa and Charlie Forte rotating as Goal Keeper were able to keep a clean sheet for the first two games, stopping attacks before they could start.

The final game was an arm wrestle with neither team giving an inch all game. The crossbar was all that stopped Chloe from scoring an incredible goal from outside the box with a fantastic strike from a free kick. The defensive unit was again solid all game, stopping every advance expect an unlucky deflection from a corner kick at the end of the first half. Although down 0-1 at the half, the team persevered with great heart, with our midfield and attacking players Teah, Chloe, Margot and Marley Taylor running on every play to provide as an option in attack and help out on defence.

However, unfortunately it was not enough, with a single goal separating the teams at the final whistle.

It was a great effort by the team with a number of entertaining plays throughout the day. We are extremely proud of the spirit in which our team played and the improvement we made, individually and as a team as the games progressed.

We will be back next year, aiming to go one better.

Badminton

Our Year 8 badminton players made a smashing impact at the Beachside Round Robin last Thursday. With 20 students filling four teams, our students maintained a strong presence throughout the day, demonstrating fairness and good cheer with their opponents, and loads of team spirit as they supported one another. Both boys teams finished the tournament in first place and our girls teams did nearly as well with our B team also finishing in first place. Our girls A team did their best against some experienced and competitive players. The competition was so hot during the final round of the day that the boys were swapping preferred shuttlecocks - it's always good to speak up when you have a preference, especially when the team you're playing prefers plastic. Feathers all the way!
