St Joseph's 2020 Gala Day Preferences - Years 3-6

This year your child/children will have the opportunity to participate in one or more Sporting Gala Days depending on availability. The aim of these Gala Days is to encourage participation in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

To ensure your child has the opportunity to participate in their preferred Gala Day we are asking that they nominate their preferred Gala Days by completing the preferences via the COMPASS Parent Portal under the "INSIGHTS" tab. To access this tab, please "OPEN IN BROWSER" and answer the questions listed.

It is hoped that all children have the opportunity to participate in at least one Gala Day. Please do not nominate for Gala Days unless you know your child will be present on the day. Teams will be formed from the nominations so once a student is selected for a Gala Day it is an expectation that they will attend.

If your child is selected to participate in a Gala Day, this event will be sent out via the COMPASS Parent Portal in the weeks leading up to the event outlining relevant information,

Please note that the cost of Gala Day attendance is in addition to the ‘Activities’ fee on your 2020 School fee statement.

Please complete the Gala Day preferences by Friday 13 March 2020.

SJB Cross Country

Our school Cross Country will be held in Week 8 on March 20. During Physical Education lessons the children will prepare and train for this event so they are familiar with the course. We are encouraging all students to approach this event with a positive mindset whether they will be running the whole way or walking part of the course. It is a wonderful opportunity to be active with the support of our school community! Course Maps can be found in the Compass event tab under resources.

Could all parents please complete the permission for this event via Compass Parent Portal. We are calling on parent volunteers to act as course officials on the day. It is because of your assistance that our carnivals as so successful and the students feel very supported throughout the course. If you are available please indicate this on the Compass Cross Country event.

We are looking forward to another great whole school carnival, without rain we hope!

MacKillop Tennis Selection

Congratulations to Caitlin A who gained selection into the MacKillop Tennis team last Friday. These trials are extremely challenging and it is an outstanding achievement to be selected in the team. Caitlin will go on to compete at the NSW PSSA Championships in Newcastle later this year.

We wish her the best of luck!

AFL Physical Education Program Years 1-4

This term Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 will have the opportunity to participate in the AFL Physical Education program in Term 1. This program started last week.  It will be running for 5 weeks (Weeks 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10) on a Friday. Students will be participating in a five week AFL program aimed at introducing students to some of the core skills of AFL through fun, engaging and modified games and activities that are aligned with curriculum outcomes.

This program will be delivered by AFLNSW Development officers with the support of classroom teachers. Through movement experiences students also develop self-management and interpersonal skills to support them to strive for enhanced performance and participation in a lifetime of physical activity so we are looking forward to this incursion!
