Principal's Chat

Welcome - It's mid term already.

I thank all families for their patience this morning as the gates and learning centres were unlocked a little later than usual.  This was due to the whole staff photo that was scheduled for 8.15 am this morning.  The photographer certainly felt organising the staff posed a greater challenge than our students!!

On Monday we have our first whole school assembly at 9.00 in our school sports centre.  Along with awards and general business the student leaders for 2020 will announced and presented to the community.  All welcome.

First Parents & Friends Meeting for 2020

We have set a time for our first Parents & Friends meeting for 2020.  I encourage all parents that are available to come and join.  It would be great to have some new members join us.  I am looking forward to working with our very dynamic group of parents to further improve, serve and fundraise for our community.

Date: 5th March

Time: 2.00 - 3.00 pm

Venue: Staffroom

Wyndham Vale Community Gathering

In the past the community masses that have been held here at school have had limited attendance.  These masses are for our own Wyndham Vale community and it would be great to see greater attendance.  We would like to hear your views so we can plan our community masses and activities for the 2020 year.  A general meeting will be held on Monday 24th February 2020 at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Primary School 2/20 Howqua Way, Manor Lakes, VIC 3024 at 7:00 pm.

Winter Uniform Fitting for New Families

On Wednesday 26th from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm and Wednesday 4th from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm there will be appointments offered for winter uniform fittings for prep and new families.   A link will be available on dojo and the school website.

Prep Students

The year Preps have continued to settle into the routines of school.  The Preps have Wednesdays off school until after the long weekend in March.  From Wednesday 11th March Prep students will attend school for full weeks.  I think there will be some very tired preps  by the end the school week for the rest of this term!!

Reminders

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

Please join us in the OLSC sports centre next Wednesday, 26th February at 9.00am as we begin the Church season of Lent. All families are welcome and we look forward to seeing you then.

Opening of the School Year Mass

All families are invited and encouraged to attend our opening school mass.  It will be held on Thursday 5th March.  Mass will commence at 9.00am and will be held in our Sports Centre. Please mark this date in your diaries and I encourage all members of our parent community to join us if you are able.

Absences and Change of Details

A reminder to all parents to let the school know if students will not be attending school.  This can be done the day prior to the absence or via phone call /message on the morning of the school absence.   All schools are mandated to account for school absences to ensure the safety of our students.

If your contact details have changed (including address and phone number) over the summer break please update family details in the office.

Car Park Reminders - Student safety is a number one priority

Please take great care when collecting and dropping students off at school.  The only place to drop students off and pick up before and after school is the drop off / pick up zone alongside the school hall.  There is always a staff member on duty in this area to ensure the safety of our students.  The carpark and road at the rear of the school is extremely congested at the beginning and end of the day and so I ask for all drivers to obey the school and road rules and be patient during busy times.   These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety of all students.

National Ride to School Day

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the most exciting days on the school calendar. It is a day where students and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

This year National Ride2School Day will be held on Friday the 13th of March and students, along with their families, are encouraged to walk, ride, scoot or skate to school. All students who actively travel to school will be in the running to win an exciting prize so buckle those helmets, polish those wheels and get those legs moving!

The Term Dates for 2020 are as follows:

Term 1:           Thursday January 30 - Friday March 27

Term 2:           Tuesday April 14 - Friday June 26

Term 3:            Monday July 13 - Friday September 18
