Principal's Chat

Last week many of our students were out and about in both the local and wider community, it is fantastic when this happens and we receive feedback from these community agencies about the exemplary behaviour and manners of our students.  These activities are not possible without the help and support of both staff and parents, a big thank you to all the helpers over the week for your contribution to the learning of our students.

Staff News:

We welcome back Tina & Janine this week to our school community after their leave.  We wish Hayley safe travels as she begins her long service leave & officially welcome Scott to our teaching team & OLSC community.  Scott is replacing Hayley for the remainder of Term 3 whilst she is on leave.

Illness:

Throughout Term 3 we have been hit hard with both student & staff illness.  Sick bay has been like a revolving door with students being sent home due to illness.  In a close knit community it is important to keep your child at home if they are unwell, sending them to school is distressing for them and only spreads the germs to others. Hopefully we will see the sunshine soon & light at the end of the tunnel for all in regards to sickness.  We have also had some cases of head lice reported to the school.  We ask all parents to please check their child's hair & treat if necessary.  Students with headlice are not permitted to be at school until the condition has been treated.

Traffic Issues:

We are all very aware of  how difficult it is trying to park around the school during pick up time.  Unfortunately our pleas to the council re parking restrictions being put in force around the school have fallen on deaf ears. Most parking spots in both Howqua Way & Academy Way are full by 8am as commuters park here to catch the train to work. This is causing safety issues for our students as parents double park, especially in Academy Way waiting to collect their children at the end of the day. Talking to parents we hear your pain, the only thing I can suggest at the moment is for parents to keep contacting council re the problems faced & hopefully we will get the message across.  It has also come to our attention that some parents are using the school car park to park their car for the day whilst they are at work. This causes safety issues as we are unable to move these cars in the case of an emergency and parking for parents and visitors to our school is reduced.  Please refrain from this practice.

P&F:

It was great to see many new faces at our Parents & Friends meeting last week. Our P&F are responsible for many whole school activities and fundraising, without them many activities would not be possible.  The P&F are calling for volunteers to help with the Fathers Day Stall & Fathers Day breakfast at the end of August.  If you are able to give some time the link is on DOJO.  The next P&F meeting is on Thursday September 12 @ 2.00pm, all welcome.

Father's Day Breakfast

A pancake breakfast,  with the opportunity to purchase a coffee or hot beverage from Barrel of Beans coffee van, which will be located in the staff car park, will be running from 7.30am to approximately 8.30am. Families need to ensure that the each child will help serve dad, so make sure they have had their breakfast at home. Once dad has collected his coffee and pancake, families are welcome to wonder to their child learning space to sit, eat and spend a moment with dad before dad has to head off to work. Staff will be around to assist - you'll know them by their fluro vests.

Spellathon:

Students participated in the annual Spellathon on Tuesday as part of Book Week.  We ask that all students now collect their Spellathon money from their sponsors & return this to school by the end of Week 8. All money raised is going towards updating our Chromebooks & iPads.

So far we have raised $1172.70. The student with the highest individual amount raised in each Learning Centre will be presented with a book award at our next whole school assembly in Week Ten.

Naplan 2019:

We have been informed that schools will start receiving Naplan 2019 results in the week beginning September 2.  Once results have been received we will forward them to parents.
