MUSIC
We’ve been having a great time in the Music Room this term. It has been fantastic to see the students’ skills progressing and their understanding of music expanding.
In the Prep area, we have been learning rhythms on bucket drums, songs on marimbas and singing and dancing to lots of fun songs. The Preps have also been learning about instrument families.
The Grade 1 students have been learning rock beats on bucket drums, creating their own music on marimbas and singing and dancing too.
The Grade 2 – 6 students have been learning to play the guitar. They are working on modified chords on three string guitars. We’ve been able to play two pop songs already and they’re sounding excellent! Students have also been learning songs with multiple rhythms on the bucket drums. They’ve been applying all of these skills to creating their own music which they regularly perform to their grade.
To tie in with the inquiry unit this term, we’ve been looking at sustainability in music. This has been very interesting and thought provoking.
Our Music Ensembles are in full swing. The students in the Choir recently performed at assembly and did a fantastic job. Our Guitar Group are working on their third song for the year and the Marimba Band will be performing at assembly this week.
The support for our Instrumental Music Program provided by Junior Rockers has been great this term. Many students are learning keyboard, guitar and drumming.
To celebrate Mother’s Day we had a special music workshop for the great mums of our school. 28 participants learnt a song on the marimba in under an hour and performed it at assembly for our school community. Well done to all involved!
