Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which Kalinda Primary school gathers, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I would like to pay my respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.

We're all back

After a very long period of Remote Learning and then a staggered return of classes, it is so wonderful to have all our students back at school.

The buzz of excitement (from the students, not the bees*) has been so wonderful. I always love the sounds of excited chatter and laughter as students return after a school holiday break. After such a long, isolating lockdown that feeling of excitement was really amazing.

Along with the excitement comes nerves, anxiety, and tears. This is completely normal as we go through a period of transition and as a school, we are here to make sure the students feel safe and welcome.

I feel a deep sense of gratitude to be back at school with all of our students here. I know this feeling is shared by many staff members, students and their families. Reminding ourselves to savour the simple joys in life and have gratitude for all that we have is so important.

I hope that every student has a great end to this school year and I hope that all of the families in our community are able to find moments of joy as they re-connect with friends and family members as restrictions ease.

New staff member (Melon)

Today was the first day for our newest staff member, Melon. She is our second school dog (and my family dog). She had a great time meeting many students, staff and her doggy colleague Roxie.

Melon has enjoyed many of the wonderful smells here at Kalinda, getting lots of lovely pats and tummy rubs and she is looking forward to spending more and more time here at school.

Thank you to all the staff, students and parents who met her today and made her feel so welcome.
