Welcome Back!

The sounds of children playing, screaming and cheering outside, laughter and life filling the yards once more; music to my ears as I write this. The joy of collaborative learning, sharing, peer to peer support, face to face experiences ours once more. In classrooms, it is the conversations and smiles we missed the most.

While work completed remotely is certainly proof of continued success and engagement (see the images below), nothing can compare to sharing this creative journey in the classroom.

For Year 10 Photography classes, their online learning closed with a challenge. Photographers use light to reveal or conceal parts of their images, to illustrate mood and emotion through their choice of colour and contrast. Ms Grbac’s Year 10 Photography students worked through several different genres to create images that represented the six primary and secondary colours.

“I really enjoyed learning about the value of colour in imagery and the emotion it can bring throughout this task. Blues and cool tones can create a subdued and cold effect, whereas warmer tones can seem inviting or energetic. I also thought that experimenting with different kinds of shadows and lighting was very interesting and could bring new elements to a photograph.” Kamryn D

“In completing the colour wheel, I had the opportunity to create different kinds of flat lays. I really enjoyed putting together what was to be photographed as a flat lay and adjusting items according to different compositions I wanted to portray in my images.” Shopra K

“The element I enjoyed the most learning about in photography was the colour composition and the photo editing. This allowed me to explore making my photos more creative and vibrant.” Olivia O

However, without a doubt, it is the following images that make Aitken College a community, moments with our students, moments to be cherished.

I would like to end by thanking everyone who voted during the Online Art and Design exhibition. The support of our program is appreciated with awards and results to be announced shortly.
