P.E.

We are super excited that in a couple of weeks we will have all of our students and staff back on campus for onsite learning. Whilst it has been a challenging time for many, we can also be very thankful for all of the opportunities and lessons learnt during this time. Our students have displayed resilience and perseverance especially during Remote Learning 6.0. We are very proud of all of our students.
The focus for the first four weeks of Term 4 is going to be skipping. Skipping has to be one of the cheapest exercises available. You need minimal equipment, minimal space and you can practise just about anywhere — indoors or outdoors. Skipping will help develop hand eye coordination and is extremely beneficial for overall cardiovascular fitness. With our Junior grades now on Google Classroom, it has been terrific to be able to deliver the video’s and activities to all students on this platform. It enables us to provide valuable feedback to our students in a timely manner.
We looked at the following for our junior grades:
- Starting position. Handles at hip height, facing into hips. Rope behind heels for forward skipping.
- Single bound and double bound.
- Rhythm and coordination
- Continuous forward skipping.
- Introduction of backward skipping.
PROGRESSION.
Taking skipping to the next level and looking at extending our skills and introducing some basic tricks. We have some very competent skippers in our junior grades and it is terrific to see them take on extra challenges.
In years 3-6, we continued using Google Classroom for all Physical Education tasks and additional PE activities. Our students are quite confident on this platform now and we have found an increase in engagement levels from previous RL tasks.
Our grade 3-6 students also participated in a unit of work on skipping. This unit of work caters for all ability levels and once again is an activity that can be successfully completed independently at home. Extension and regression activities were provided to cater for all of our students.
Our students were then encouraged to create a routine using as many of the skills that they had learnt during this unit of work and were then required to submit a short video showcasing their hard work and skills. It was terrific to see so many of our students engaging with our lessons each week and we will continue to monitor their progress over the RL period and continue when we are back to face to face learning.
Our Prep, Grade one and Grade two students will start their dance rehearsals in week 3. We are certainly looking forward to seeing our students showcase their talents over the course of our rehearsals. We are always blown away by the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to our dance unit of work.
Our Grade 3-6 students will begin their rehearsals towards the end of week 5.
Due to the restrictions, at this stage we are looking at a similar format to 2020 where we live streamed our Production and made it available at a later date. We are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that our students get to experience this major event in our school calendar and finish of the year on a positive note. All details are yet to be confirmed and this information will be distributed as soon as it is available. Parents will also be given sufficient notice in order to source outfits for their child’s performance. Class teachers will soon be in contact with more information in the coming week.
Thank you all once again for your support and cooperation during this remote learning time. We hope you are all well and we are very much looking forward to seeing everyone back at our home, “OATLANDS” very soon.
Stay well and stay safe.
