PRAYER

Holidays

I trust the holidays will be a great time for the boys to recharge their batteries and hopefully you can spend some quality family time, hopefully outside and possibly in a group of five! Thank you to Mr Simpson and 6 Green who ran the  prayer last week at our merit assembly.   The theme was Spring and the positivity is worth sharing.  Thank you to the students who read the various parts. Well done gents.

Assembly prayer

Lachlan McGrath

Let us begin with the sign of the cross…

In the name of the Father, and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Excitement of Spring

Dear Lord,

You have what it takes to make this spring my best ever. You can make this spring Amazing, Astounding, and Astronomically Awesome. You can bring bountiful blessings to me.

Charlie O'Donnell

You can help me create a continually contagious caring and compassionate attitude in my heart. You can design and deploy desirable dynamic dreams about my destiny that will capture my imagination and ignite my determination. You can open seemingly endless streams of encouragement and edification to me.

Riley Atkinson

And you can flow your living water into my heart and inspire me to be a freshly, faithfully - focused follower of Jesus Christ. My prayer request to you, Lord, is - don't hold back! Let all the wisdom, insights, healing mercies, financial provision, relationship blessings, and dynamic energy that you have ready to give me - start flowing to me without hindrance.

Darcy Horstead

And Lord, I will seek to put myself in a position to cooperate with you, yield to you, and receive from you! With excitement and love I pray. Amen

Live Jesus In our hearts

In the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

HOLIDAY IDEA - THE GREAT CYCLE CHALLENGE

Bradley Newman sent me a holiday idea that he is going to participate in and maybe your son would be interested.

Brad wrote:

‘With COVID restrictions and no community/school sports like Rugby/Nippers, I have found another passion in Mountain biking. This October I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge – Riding to fight  kids' cancer. This challenge will keep me busy and active and at the same time will be able to help others in need.

Bradley has the aim of riding a certain amount of kilometres between 1 October to 31 October and raising money.

A THOUGHT TO PONDER

In honour of Roald Dahl Day on September 13 (He was born on September 13, 1916)

Please be safe in the holidays.  Remember, when driving, you have precious cargo: your child/children and yourself.

Thanking you for your support.

Mr Tim Long - Head of the Junior School

From the Junior Resource Centre

This week’s Highlights:  September 13 - Happy Roald Dahl Day! (1916 - 1990)

"A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men." - Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

If Roald Dahl were alive today, he’d be 105 this year. That’s a ripe old age, much older than Grandpa Joe, who was only ninety-six and a half.

Here are a few Scrumdiddlyumptious Roald Dahl facts:

  • When writing 1982’s The BFG, Dahl created 238 new words for the book’s protagonist
  • Dahl was a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force during WWII
  • Dahl supplied intelligence to an M16 organisation known as the British Security Coordination
  • He wrote the James Bond movie “You Only Live Twice”
  • He wrote most of his books in his garden shed

Which is your favourite book by him? #roalddahlday2021

Spotlight on Shakespeare Online Webinar

Today Mrs Martin’s Year 6 Literacy class participated in the SPOTLIGHT ON SHAKESPEARE ONLINE WEBINAR.

In this virtual excursion, the students were able to visit the exquisite Shakespeare Room on a virtual tour and engage closely with Shakespeare’s first folio – the only copy held in Australia! The students also learnt about the Globe Theatre and were able to see a very special model held at the library. I hope that this interactive experience has inspired the students to learn more about the great playwright, William Shakespeare!

Australian Reading Hour

Yesterday was #AustralianReadingHour and with the weather being not so flash, it was the perfect day to curl up with a good book and read for an hour – or more! Perhaps you might also connect with friends and family to share and discover stories that matter.

Australia Reads is on a mission to get more people reading more books, more often.

The Australian Reads Organisation want people to put down their phones, turn off the TV, pick up a book and read, for 10 minutes a day.

Reading for 10 minutes a day at the average reading rate of 300 words per minute means you could be reading 3,000 words a day, leading to 90,000 words (the average length of an adult book) each month.

So, what are you waiting for?

Book Week Costume Character Parade

Our overall winner of the Online Book Week Costume Character Parade, Oliver H (Year 6) shows his prize, received in the mail this week.

Mrs Martin’s Book Trail: Ground Zero by Alan Gratz

Ground Zero is another intense historical fiction novel that will not disappoint. While Brandon and Reshimina are fictional characters, Gratz included real events from 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan. This is a dual timeline story set in NYC on September 11, 2001, and in Afghanistan on September 11, 2019 and Alan Gratz does an absolutely amazing job weaving this story together. It’s an honest, harrowing and gripping read for Middle Grade readers.
