NAPLAN TESTING

TIMETABLE

Tuesday 10th May – Writing

Wednesday 11th May – Reading and Language Conventions

Thursday 12th May – Numeracy.

In a couple of weeks all of our Grade 3 and Grade 5 students will be sitting their NAPLAN tests across Australia. This year Echuca East Primary students will be completing these tests online using their iPads.

(Exception: Grade 3 students will continue to complete the writing assessment on paper).

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills in the areas of Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

These NAPLAN tests are one aspect of the school’s assessment and reporting process, and do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ progress.

The main difference with online NAPLAN testing is that it does provide some adaptive testing where the test presents different questions which may be more, or less difficult, depending on a students’ responses.

The results will not be available till later in the year, so we will notify you when they arrive at school so parents can collect and discuss these with their child’s teacher.

Our students have been busy practising sample tests and completing similar tasks both using pen and paper and online on the NAPLAN Demonstration site  NAPLAN Demonstration Site (or scan the QR code below) You can practise using this website at home.

Practising at school and at home supports the students to become familiar with the test appearance and the testing expectations.

Some students are not fazed about these days, while others may be quite anxious, so please reassure them that they are ready and all that is required is that they focus on participating and trying to do their very best work.

If you have any concerns or issues regarding your child’s mental wellbeing in participating in the tests – please discuss these a.s.a.p. with their classroom teacher.

As we all know, ‘Food for the Tummy, is Food for the Brain,’ so please help your child by ensuring they have a great breakfast, lunch and lots of healthy food and drink the night before

Please also support them by ensuring a great night’s sleep each night and a happy, calm morning.

Please ensure your child is at school on time as most of the tests are completed in the first part of the day.

Remember to bring their iPads FULLY CHARGED each and every day.

We are looking forward to our students showing what they can achieve during these days.
