a word from leadership

Service

I was wandering around the school the other day and as I walked the level of service that I saw in the everyday was a blessing to me.

I saw students serving one another during class when handing out books or collecting the communication bucket from the office.  I saw administration and support staff working with students sharing a smile and encouraging each other.  I witnessed volunteers working with students and transporting them to events.

In Galatians 5:13 the Bible reminds us to use our freedom in Christ to serve one another in love.   Thank you for the service that you provide to our school community and may you be blessed by the service of another.

Reading with your children.

On the 25th May students across the school participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime.  This annual event has learning communities across Australia reading the same book and enjoying language.  This year 'Family Tree' by Josh Pyke was shared.

‘It started with a seed, and that seed was me. And, over time, laughter filled my garden...’Family Tree is a sweet book written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh and is a heartfelt celebration of family, community and the seasons of life to cherish and share. Family Tree looks at the beauty of life through the growth of a gum tree which spreads love and joy while depicting the ways in which communities and families around the world evolve together in unity.

Here at Good Shepherd, we have a culturally and linguistic diverse community.  This book celebrates each of us.

Reading with your children is a wonderful way to share the joy of any language.  We know that reading aloud with children supports their language development, even from in the womb.

While students across the school shared this book, consider finding your favourite picture book and sharing it with your children today.
