Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!

We have had a staggered return into Wellington Street early this term, with a few delays in returning due to catching COVID and isolating and community bio security lockdowns. We also had three girls joining us from our MITS Alumni Boarding House for Girls (Moniquah, Tatiana & Rumarlea). It has been an absolute pleasure in having them join our family and everyone settling in well and forming great connections. We've celebrated a few birthdays this term, happy birthday to Timikar, Tatiana and Kenita.

This year is going to be an eventful one for Kenita who is in Year 12 at Huntingtower School. She has been managing all her subjects and workload well and is looking forward to Term 2. Lilly & Timikar are in Year 11 at Siena College and have begun their VET Early Childhood at Box Hill. Denise is in Year 10 at Kingswood College and enjoying her time back at school and is looking forward to school camp next term.

We have been lucky enough to have a few weekend getaways to regional Victoria, Dja Dja Wurrung country and to Lorne, Gudabanud country.

Last week Friday, Siena College held their Year 11 Formal. Lilly invited Kenita to be her guest for the evening. The house was buzzing with excitement as the younger girls helped them get ready for the event.

Well done ladies for your amazing efforts, keep shining. See you all next term.

Term 1 for our alumni students at Star of the Sea has been a great start. The school has welcomed our girls with open arms and have provided amazing support and care for our girls.

Giving back to Community

Johnny in Palumpa
Johnny in Palumpa

It’s great to see one of our alumni giving back to his community by working at his local school in Palumpa, NT.  Johnny graduated from St Kevin's College last year and now wants to support younger students on their own education journey.  Well done Johnny!

Firbank

Our young mob are doing exciting things at Firbank with the support from the great staff at Firbank Grammar. School camps and lots of sporting activities has been the highlight for our alumni students so far this year.

364 Church Street – New MITS Alumni Boarding House

MITS alumni and Partner School staff were shown through the new MITS boarding house at 364 Church Street. Alumni are excited at the opportunity of returning to Richmond, being with friends, and playing footy for Richmond Junior Footy Club.  For some students it means navigating new travel routes to school and new routines but this fosters greater independence and responsibility as part of their journey into adulthood.

On a lighter note there was some banter amongst the boys about who gets which room and who they want to share with.  The spider may play a part in room choice (see right)!

Touch Rugby finals

This year has saw almost 20 MITS alumni boys taking part in Touch football at Partner Schools. St Kevin’s College Firsts took out the senior grade for the fourth year in a row - Adam Minjin playing well throughout the finals and getting his hands on the trophy. Years 10, 9 and 7 were also represented.

Unfortunately, the fab five of Marley, Bruce, Antonio, Leo and Adam didn’t make the Year 10 final. Kendyn Brown played a strong final, but the trophy eluded his Year 9 team.

Brighton Grammar alumni won finals in Years 9 and 10!  Simeon Rosas had moves better than Jagger, and Kaleb Rioli-Brogan was a machine. Congratulations to all other Brighton alumni as well.

Special mention to Phillip Cooper at Trinity Grammar who did it tough at the start of the season with an ankle injury.

Footy Season is here!

You can’t get any more Australian than AFL and with a game rich in cultural heritage MITS alumni once again take to the oval in 2022. So, after weeks spent honing skills, and improving speedwork, practice matches provided an opportunity for alumni (and Year 7 students) to ‘shake off the cobwebs’.  No matter the outcome, MITS alumni played with such passion.  We will let the pictures do the talking…
