Holiday eBook Reading

The EDSC Library has plenty of digital books to keep students reading these school holidays.

Our diverse eBook and audiobook collection can be borrowed 24/7 through the Sora app, or from our library website.

Library staff have produced new instructions for students to customise Sora to improve accessibility, especially helpful for students with dyslexia or reading difficulties.

Students can also learn how to link their Sora app to public libraries, instantly increasing the range of eBooks and audiobooks they can read.

The new instructions can be downloaded at this link.

Students should make sure to include any eBooks and audiobooks they read during the holidays in their Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge total.

New Poetry shelf in the Library

The EDSC Library is excited to showcase our new Poetry shelf, housing our refreshed collection of modern and classic poetry books.

Our new shelf brings together renowned poets such as T.S. Eliot, William Blake, and Banjo Patterson, with celebrated modern voices including Amanda Gorman, Simon Armitage, and Rupi Kaur.

Our Year 9 students used the collection a great deal while studying poetry in English during Term 1, while other year levels have also shown an interest in poetry.

The Poetry shelf can be browsed in the Library, or on our Library website.

Students are reminded that the EDSC Library is awarding the Poetry Pro award to the student who reads the most poetry in the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge this year.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update

EDSC students have now read a remarkable 1,365 books in this year’s Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge – all in Term 1!

This excellent result has so far been achieved by 154 readers, but it’s not too late for other students to start reading and vying for prizes.

Well done to these students who have recently reached their 15 book milestone: Jake P and Ethan W of 7C, Isaac V of 7D, Rohan S of 7F, Cassandra L of 7K, and Rhylan T of 7L. All students who read 15 books or more will join our end-of-year Challenge celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.

Congratulations to Sara A of 10A who won a $10 canteen voucher in this fortnight’s random draw, just by entering her books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage

This year, we are counting the books Year 7 to 10 students, and all school staff, read from January 31st to September 2nd.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.

All details and the latest leaderboard are on our EDSC VPRC webpage
