Junior School Council Free Dress Day

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and donated to our Fundraiser for Diabetes awareness. As a school, we raised a whopping $700 which has been donated to Diabetes Australia. It was wonderful to see so many students in fancy dress, onesies, PJ’s and normal clothes. It was a lovely day and a fantastic cause.

Read below for a personal account from one of our students, Eleanor, who was recently diagnosed herself.

Hi BHPS, My name is Eleanor Mak and 4 and a half months ago I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. Recently our school held a fundraiser to raise money for Diabetes Victoria. When I was diagnosed, I thought I’d never get used to it, but I have quickly figured out the following things:

  • There is nothing I cannot do, I just need to plan ahead
  • I can still eat lollies, chocolate and all things sugary
  • I couldn’t have stopped myself from getting type one diabetes
  • I can still attend parties and hang outs

And finally, I have learnt that diabetes doesn't control me. I am the same person I was before diagnosis. While there is no cure (yet) and I still think about it regularly it doesn't mean that I can't enjoy the sweet things in life!
