Book Week

We had a fabulous week last week with Book Week. Leanne Bentley did a great job selling great books to our community at the Book Fair and was very creative, dressing up as a different book character each day. We finished off the week with a dress up day and author visit. Trace Bella spoke (via Zoom) to all our children about her books and was very engaging. Mrs Bentley has set aside many of her books in the library for students to borrow.

Inter School Sports

We were very proud of our Year 5 and 6 students competing in the Winter Sports Day on Thursday. They showed great sportsmanship and were a credit to the school. More information in Ms Russell’s report.

Graduation Photos

Just a reminder that our Year 6 Graduation photos will be taking place on Monday the 12th September. Remember to wear your (clean!) Year 6 jumper for the occasion!

Our final Happy Hour Concert for the year is happening on Friday the 16th September (the last day of school), children have been madly practising their items with Mr Fox r3eady for a polished performance as always! Parents are welcome to come and watch for an 11.30am start.

Don’t forget that the students are dismissed at 2.30pm on that day.

State School Spectacular

Good luck to Mr Fox and the children involved with the State School Spectacular on Saturday the 10th September. We are very proud of our student’s work ethic in learning their songs and actions.

Victoria’s Child Safe Standards Update

We write to inform you that the Victorian Child Safe Standards have changed as of Friday the 1st July, 2022. Ministerial Order 870 has been in effect since January 2016 and has now been updated to include 4 new standards. Although similar to Victoria’s previous Child Safe standards, key changes include new requirements:

  • To involve families and communities in efforts to keep children and young people safe
  • For a greater focus on safety for aboriginal children and young people
  • To manage the risk of child abuse in online environments
  • In relation to governance, systems and processes to keep children and young people safe.

At BHPS we have used the last 6 months to update our policies and renew our practices in consultation with our parent body through School Council and our staff, to ensure that we are not only complying with, but actively engaged with the updated child safe standards. All relevant Child Safe Policies have been ratified at School Council and are available on our website.

Some of our initiatives include:

  • Respectful Relationships (Staff Professional Development, curriculum delivery and reporting procedures)
  • The Cyber Safety Project (curriculum delivery, student incursion and parent information night)
  • Student Voice (creating an inclusive and supportive environment where children feel their voice is valued and therefore are empowered to speak out if necessary)

The launch of the new standards is a wonderful opportunity to continually improve what we do as a school to ensure that each student is safe, feels safe and has the opportunity to thrive.
