The Year 7 Girls came 2nd in the State!
This term the Year 7 Girls Soccer team have made our school immensely proud. They have been able to achieve things no other interschool sports team has at Edgars Creek Secondary College. These girls achieved the ranking of 2nd in Victoria for Year 7 Girls Soccer.
On Wednesday 17th Of September, they competed in the Regional round at Darebin International Sports Centre. Due to another school pulling out, they had to face two schools to make the final. The first game saw them take out Gladstone Park 3-0 in a dominate performance from the girls. The second game was played against Melbourne Girls College and this was the decider game to see who would advance to the final round. At the end of full time it was 0-0. This then went into a penalty shoot out. Five girls from each school stepped up to the plate and it ended at 3-3. We sent out next five girls out and it was a sudden death penalty shoot out. Melbourne kicked off first and it was saved by our amazing goal keep Chloe Chehade. Zainab Alhijaji was next up for us and placed it straight past the keeper to send us through to the final. At the end of full time saw us 1-1 against Pascoe Vale Girls College and we then had to play 5 minutes of overtime each way. At the end of overtime the game was still 1-1 and another penalty shoot out had to begin. Pascoe Vale kicked off first and scored their first goal for penalties. However, little did they know, our awesome goalie Chloe Chehade would save the next three as we came through and kicked 4 in a row to seal the victory. We are heading off to STATE!
Tuesday 6th of September we headed back to Darebin International Sports Centre to play
against the top 8 teams in Victoria for Year 7 Girls Soccer. The girls were nervous however, this did not show in our first two match ups. We beat Bass Coast 4-0 then went on to also beat Ballarat 3-0. Our last match up was against Mckinnon and both teams had won 2 games. This was the decided to see who would face Maribyrnong in the state final. The game was neck and neck for a little while before we Lily Sterjovski scored our first goal. Mckinnon had their chances however weren't able to capitalise. Our second goal came in the second half and we were through to the state final. The vibe was high and the girls were ready to go. We came up against a very well drilled Maribyrnong team who had won their pool games 11-0, 9-0, 16-0. The girls gave it their best crack however, came up short in the final losing 9-1. A positive to take away was that we were the only team all day to score against them and that score came from Lily Sterjovski. These girls were amazing and the whole ECSC school community are so proud of them. They just came 2nd in the state!! Amazing effort for all involved.
