A Message from David & Cam...

4/5 Camp Oasis

Last Wednesday, very excited students and teachers headed to Camp Oasis for three days of memory-making experiences. This was the first camp that has been able to run for a number of years so the excitement was immense! Quotes from the students below perfectly sum up this wonderful experience:

  • Asreet - 'I loved that we had a lot of new experiences such as Archery which was really fun, and the scenery was beautiful'
  • Ryder - 'The activities were so much fun. My favourite activities were the Low Ropes and Archery'
  • Brooklyn - 'I really enjoyed being able to hang out with my friends in the cabins'
  • Christine - ' Camp was a great opportunity to hang out with my friends and build relationships. The activities were so much fun'
  • Zoe - 'Camp gave me an opportunity to try activities that I had never done before'
  • Izzy - 'The Crate Climb and the Flying Fox were my favourite activities and it was great that I was able to try lots of new activities'

We would like to acknowledge the effort, time and commitment by our staff that ensured the camp was an amazing success, Thank you!

Tree Planting Day

In partnership with the Hobsons Bay City Council, we had a tree planting day on Monday 22nd August. Students really enjoyed planting trees near the back fence of our school and we all look forward to watching them grow and thrive (just like our students!) Thank you to Trish for organizing this initiative which will help our school become even greener!

AGPS Spook-Tacular Trivia

On Friday 19th August, we held our Trivia Night. It was a great success! The gym looked fantastic and it was wonderful to see the creative costumes on display. The event was a great way for parents and carers to meet each other and have some kid-free fun. It was also a great fundraiser for us as we get ever closer to our fundraising target. The event raised close to $5000! Thank you to Meagan and her team of dedicated parents who organised the night and for those who supported this fundraising initiative.

Father's Day / Special Person's Day

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, our students have had the opportunity to buy a gift for their Dad / Special Person. The students were excited by the selection of gifts on offer. Times have certainly changed since socks and mugs were big ticket items!

This Friday we will be holding our Father's Day / Special Person's Day event. Dads / Special People will be able to enjoy their pre-ordered pie with their child under Gumbuya. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout lunchtime and the winners will be announced at the end of lunchtime. During the lunch break there will be a range of games including soccer, lawn bowls along with art activities that students can play with their Dad / Special Person.

In the last session, Dads / Special People are invited to join their child in their classroom for the afternoon's activities. This opportunity provides a lovely finish to a memorable day for both the student and their Dad / Special Person.

Jensen at the Nationals!

We have an elite athlete in our school! On the 27th of August, Jensen headed to Adelaide to compete at the annual School Sport Victoria Cross Country Championship in the 10-12 Years Cross Country Team. Jensen performed superbly to achieve a third-place finish competing against the best runners in the country for his age group. What an amazing effort! Well done, Jensen!

It was great to be able to provide moral and financial support for Jensen through our free-dress day last week. The donations from this totalled $500 and was greatly appreciated by Jensen's family.

Book Week Parade

Who knew that Mr Korbut could be such an amazing Willy Wonker and that Adam would look so enchanting as Snow White! What an amazing parade! The students (and their families!) and staff are to be congratulated on putting so much effort into their costumes. The parade had a wonderful community feel and was a fitting end to a week packed with Book Week activities. Congratulations everyone!

Parent Survey

A reminder that the Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey was sent out last week. The link and details was sent to the email address that was given for 'Person A' on your child's enrolment form. If you have not received the email please contact Jen (9360 0777 jen.armstead@education.vic.gov.au).

We have opened the survey to all families at Altona Green and we want to hear from as many people as possible. Please take the time to complete the survey by Friday 3rd September as this information is really important for decision-making when planning school improvement.

Planning for 2023

We have begun the planning process for 2023 and we would greatly appreciate it if you could please notify the school if your child/ren will not be returning to AGPS in 2023. Please contact the office 9360 0777 or altona.green.ps@education.vic.gov.au to let us know. We will communicate more about how 2023 will look at AGPS in upcoming newsletters as we continue to work methodically through our planning process.
