From the Head of Sport

It has been good to see the number of students who are interested in playing summer sport and attending trials. Please remember that if you do not make a team in your chosen sport that you still have the opportunity to look at other summer sports. Come and see me at my office if you have any questions regarding summer sport.
Congratulations
Olivia Harris (Year 11)
The Woolworths Scholarship has been the pinnacle award for the Western Sydney Academy’s highest achieving male and female athletes. This week, Olivia Harris was named the recipient of this award due to her many achievements in Netball and Rowing.
Olivia is a multi-talented young athlete with achievements in both Rowing and Netball. Olivia produced some outstanding results in her Netball development this year – including Academy Games MVP for the Division 1 Academy Netball team, Penrith Valley Sports Foundation Monthly Award, and Netball NSW 17s State team 2nd phase trialist. Her achievements in Rowing include placing 4th in the Women’s 2,000m Single Scull at the NSW Rowing State Championships and taking home gold in the U17 Women’s Coxed Quadruple and being a semi-finalist in the U17 Women’s Single and Double Scull events at the 2022 Australian Rowing Championships. She also was awarded the Nepean Rowing Club President’s Award for Oarswoman of the Year. Congratulations, Olivia, on your achievements this year.
Winter Presentation Evenings
This week we had two of our four presentation evenings. Just a reminder that teams should be organising a gift for their coach. Full school uniform including blazer must be worn if you wish to go on stage and anyone giving speeches must be writing these in advance and not trying to speak off the cuff.
Congratulations to all students who received awards at the Netball and Hockey Presentation evenings. Next week we celebrate the achievements of students who participated in Winter sports this year:
Football – Wednesday, 7th September 6:00pm for 6:30pm start - Cuff Hall
Rugby – Thursday, 8th September 6:00pm for 6:30pm start - Coote Hall
Sporting Photos
We are still looking for more photos from the 2022 winter season. Could you please pass these onto your MIC to be included at the relevant Presentation evening.

Rugby
Tennis
This week, Trials were held for the inaugural school tennis team and I was very impressed with the skill level of our players. Some students who expressed an interest did not attend trials. Please come and see me if this is you.
BMGS will be playing in the ISA Western Competition, with games being held either in the Blue Mountains or in Bathurst or Orange. A school bus will be provided to transport students to matches.
ISA Athletics
The ISA Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 13th September. The BMGS is posted on the Sports Office noticeboard. Please ensure you let me know if you are unavailable for all the events that you have qualified for.
If you do not wish to compete in all events listed please come and see me so that I can fill places.
Any students who currently participate in Triple jump or Hurdle events through Little Athletics can come and see me at the sports office for further information.
If you do not own a BMGS singlet you will be required to hire one from the Uniform Shop.
