Round Square News

New Leaders

The Round Square Committee thanks all the work that the outgoing committee have done over the past year.  We are very proud to welcome our new Round Square Captains, Lilly Bloomer and Naomi VanDenBerghe for the 2022/23 year.  Both are already bursting with ideas of things they would like to do and we had our first meeting with the new committee this week with many attending which was wonderful to be able to do a handover and start planning for the next year.

Round Square Postcard

On Wednesday 24th August, St Philip’s hosted a Round Square Zoom Postcard with 100 students attending from other Round Square schools around the world, mostly from India, South Africa and Australia (due to time differences).  Our Round Square leaders Charlotte Murphy, Eliza Schmidt, Nicholas Boffa, Jordy Humphries, Naomi Van Den Berghe, Kaelin Love, Lilly Bloomer, Hamish Materne, Iris Chenhall and Evelyn Holzmann (with special guest Gwyneth Van Den Berghe from Year 7) did our College proud with the theme of ‘Adventure in the Centre’.

Charlotte welcomed everyone and introduced all the SPC students, and Iris presented on the history of Adventure at SPC, with information on all of our camps and insights from different students.  Hamish also shared information about our Outdoor Education electives and Stage 2 subjects.  Lilly ran an activity through the chat looking at what adventure means to everyone, and where in Australia the participants have been and would like to travel.  We broke into groups for about 30 minutes to talk about what adventure looks like at our schools, and the time went very quickly!

At the end we came back together and thanked everyone for participating – it was fascinating hearing about what other schools around the world do for Adventure!  We hope to run another postcard later in the year or early next year!

Year 10 Exchange

On Wednesday the Year 9 students received a presentation during TG time about the different options they have for Year 10 International Exchange.  There will be a parent information evening Wednesday Week 7, from 5:00pm – 5:30pm in the Fred McKay Education Centre, and students who were interested took away a sheet of information about the session, who to contact, etc.

Exchange application forms will be due Thursday Week 8, to allow Mrs Crogan time at the International Conference in England to start finding schools who are interested in hosting our wonderful SPC students.  Please come along to the information session (parents and students) to hear more about the experiences and requirements and to see if this is something you are interested in.

Round Square International Conference

SPC are very excited to be attending a Round Square International Conference in September in England, with nine of our Year 11 students and three staff.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our students who have missed out on many international activities such as exchange and service projects over the past few years, and we are very excited.

Some of the activities include staying at the famous Oxford University and doing activities with different schools and students from all around the world, as well as activities in London and the Isle of Wight in smaller groups.  Our students have been fundraising for their trip and working hard as a team to plan their itinerary to include lots of interesting and exciting things.  We will be excited to share with everyone upon our return and offer the opportunities to more students in the future.
