AusCycling BMX National Series Rounds 4 and 5 - Alice Springs

It's on from the second the gate opens! Riders frantically pedal their way down the six meter start ramp in 2.5 seconds before prepping for the first double all eight riders vying for the ideal line into the first berm! They go around the first berm and some have to grab a handful of brake not to get pushed off it, or boxed in as they line up for the second straight, jostling all the way to the next berm and aiming for the fastest line into the third and most demanding straight before a third berm to seal the deal and all pedaling as hard as they can trying to keep their bikes and bodies moving smoothly through the fourth straight and the finish line.

Have a chat to Kit Williams, Reece Cole, Caleb Nichol, Andrea Gailey, DJ Brooks and Dave Atkins about the feeling as they hurtle through the Red Centre BMX Course aiming to better their times and to get into the final Moto to have a run at the podium. My heart rate is getting faster just thinking about it!

During the two days of racing, St Philip's was well represented and even sponsored one of the categories.

Unfortunately, DJ Brooks was incredibly unlucky and was sick as a dog and was taking antibiotics leading up to these events in his hometown, and was unable to compete in these National Rounds.

Riders really fought it out to get to these rounds and some have been training on and off the track by riding kms on the road bike, doing specific gym and spin sessions and even doing repeats of Anzac Hill just to squeeze a few more seconds off their times. There are some super proud parents (mums and dads) behind all of these athletes and we thank you for your dedication and passion
