SIS Debating

Congratulations to the SPC Clyde North Junior Debating team coached by Mr Jake Charman on their Grand Final win. It was a great achievement considering the team was represented exclusively by year 7 students in a competition for both 7 & 8 year levels. Team member Adrienne Castillo said, " I feel very proud and excited for my team that we won. I felt we were deserving of the win". It was a whole junior squad effort that contributed to the grand final win as other debaters helped design arguments and rebuttals throughout the finals. Students offering support in the team win by helping to prepare and design the team arguments and team split were: Aidan Lafaber, Chloe de Ocampo, Isabella Urzabia

Performing Arts Excursion

On Wednesday, 31 August 2022, senior Performing Arts students from the Clyde North Campus travelled to the city to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning show ‘Hamilton’ at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, ‘Hamilton’ has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre – a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics and education.

This was a very special performance of the show with students from all over Victoria making up the audience. The collective energy and response of the audience was electric in the theatre. After the show, select members of the cast presented a 15 minute Q&A session about their careers as Musical Theatre performers and their day-to-day responsibilities as actors in ‘Hamilton’. It seemed our St Peter’s College students were in awe of both the performances and interviews they witnessed on the day.

With slay-worthy music, choreography, acting, lighting and an iconic rotating turn-table stage, ‘Hamilton’ was the perfect show for our students to study as part of their Music and Drama curriculum.

4C’s Cultural Showcase

On the 5 September, five members of St. Peter’s College Clyde North performed at the 4C’s Cultural Showcase at Bunjil Place Theatre.

This event is an amazing showcase of cultural performances from secondary schools and community groups across the Southeast. The students at St. Peter’s College rehearsed tirelessly for months to perform in this wonderful event as well as sourcing and making their own traditional costumes from Samoan and Tongan culture.

The entire night was run by Officer Secondary School’s VCAL program and was a true celebration of our community in '‘Cultivating Creative Cultures with Communities’!

Here is what our students thought about the experience.

“4C’s was such a great experience/event, it was a place where I felt I belonged and it was full of joy and laughter. I enjoyed every moment of it, from practicing to the final performance day. It is something for all cultures to embrace their own cultural background and an amazing event to take part in. With the help of Ms Tab this experience was honestly the best!! Next year is another year for it so whoever would like to take part in this event for next year don’t be shy to embrace your culture and express your love for it through your cultural dancing !!”

– Evangalia Tusitala, Year 10

“Throughout the whole day I was excited to be performing and go up on stage. We all worked so hard and did amazing so I'm glad I decided to participate in 4C's.”

– Azaria Schwalger, Year 10
