Meet our School Council

We would like to introduce you to some of our current NMPS Council Members.
A bit about Kate Lomas
Kate Lomas is the co-founder and Chief Science Officer of a hearing device development company. Kate is the inventor of a novel Cochlea implant system, taking inspiration from her research into insect hearing systems. Translating her research into a commercial device has been the highlight of her career so far.
Kate holds a Ph.D. in biophysics from Auckland University, and as a female scientist, Kate is passionate about getting young girls into science and is often asked to speak about her experiences in order to offer advice and mentorship to young budding scientists. Kate also works with a women’s ranger group in a remote indigenous community in the NT to establish ecological projects.
In her spare time, Kate likes to knit dinosaurs and thankfully has a son in Year 2 who is crazy about them. Kate believes that being in the schoolboard gives her an opportunity to provide a voice for working parents and the opportunity to give back to the North Melbourne community.
A note from Ryan Staggard
I am extremely happy and somewhat honoured to have been voted in as a member of the NMPS school council this year and I look forward to getting further involved in our school community.
My wife and I have lived in North Melbourne for over 20 years and are proud to have raised our daughter Edie here and have her attend North Melbourne Primary School. It has proven to be a fantastic environment for her to develop both academically and socially. My aim as a council member is to further enhance the learning environment for our children and build on the high standards that have been achieved.
With this in mind and a focus primarily on the Buildings and Grounds sub-committee within the council, I am keen to be involved in projects that further improve the facilities within our school and give the students every opportunity to exceed their learning goals.
I’m looking forward to working closely with the fantastic team of people involved in the school council over the next two years.
