Junior School

On Monday, Stage 3 students had a jam-packed day. They had an incursion with the Wheelchair Basketball Association. The students had an incredible time hearing from Stephan, the athlete who ran the incursion, and got involved in games of wheelchair basketball themselves. In the afternoon they had a lesson with educators from Sydney Water, who talked through the water needs of Sydney into the future. Both of these incursions were helping the children think about ‘adaptations’ – how we grow, change and develop new technologies to meet the needs of people and the environment.

Tuesday was a huge day for Wentworth Falls students in the choir and orchestra. Students represented our school in the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival at Town Hall. Our students performed beautifully in their pieces, and shone in the combined choir and combined orchestra. Importantly, their behavior and attitude was exemplary too – our students were praised for their maturity and settled behavior in an atmosphere buzzing with excitement! Congratulations to all of our students, and to Mr Forbes and Mrs Cooney for their dedicated leadership. It was a truly magical evening.

Four students from Springwood in the Goldfish class planned and ran a cake stall this week. They wanted to raise awareness and funds for Endangered Species. I was so impressed with their organizational skills – they took on the planning, promotion and running of the stall (and were helped by some Mums and Dadas and Grandmas to cook some delicious treats). I am always impressed and proud when children look beyond themselves and think of the world beyond their own doorstop. Well done Jari, Christian, Robbie and Alexander.

Coming up this weekend one of our Tournament of the Minds teams will be competing in the national final at UNSW. Dr Drew has been working diligently with the group who are well prepared, although a little nervous, and I can’t wait to let you know how they all go.

As usual, our school is a busy place but we make sure there’s plenty of time to stop and talk with the children. Today as I write this on Thursday, it’s R U OK? Day. We have stopped to check in with students (as we do all the time) and with each other as a staff to make sure that we are all looking out for each other. Thank you to all of the families in the Junior School who reach out to let us know when their child needs some extra care, when things may be challenging at home, and let us know so we can support you. We all count it a privilege to work together to help your children grow and learn and thrive.

Term 3 Week 7

On Monday, 29th August, the BMGS Swish played the fourth place Dribblers in their last game of the season. This was possibly the most exciting and stressful games I’ve been a part of. With Finals hopes on the line, the Swish summoned desperate defence and learning on the go kept us up by 2 points at halftime. It was with good shooting and awesome effort from everyone that had us winning triumphantly 20-12 to keep the Swish in range of the Finals. The boys have a Bye in Week 8 and, hopefully, with the other teams playing, we may move into fourth place, which will result in the Swish making it into the Semi- Finals.

Mr Dillon Hunter

On Tuesday, 30th August, the BMGS Stars did their usual warm up routine with the two Springwood coaches, followed by two mini 20 minute games. It was great to see the team back to their usual standard of great passing and accurate shooting. The Stars had a very tense and close first game which resulted in a draw but it was great to see them have a win in their second game.

Term 3, Week 8

On Monday, 5th September, BMGS Swish had a bye. Due to the results of the other games that were played, they have now made it into the Semi-Finals, which will be played on Monday, 12th September. If you are free and would like to support the boys as they try to take out the premiership, please come along to the courts at Blaxland High. The time of the game will be shared once we have been informed.

Mr Dillon Hunter, Coach

On Tuesday, 6th September, the BMGS Stars did their usual warm up routine with the three Springwood coaches, followed by two 20 minute mini-games. It was great to see the children back to their normal standard of play. They lost the first game 2-6 but won their second game 14-0. I was so pleased to see some great layups and some quick passing into the key for easy shots at goals. We only had five players so they all had to work hard with no subs. Congratulations to Emily Hyslop, Claire Rutherford, Madeleine Russell, Sebastian Nicholls and Harrison Chalk for shooting so consistently.

A reminder that your notes for the Summer Basketball season need to be in by Friday, 16th September, so don’t delay to secure your spot on a team!
