Principal's Message

‘We Grow Through Connection’

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

As we fast approach the end of what has been a very busy and successful term at Pakenham Secondary College, we reflect on the many student activities and achievements that have occurred throughout the last two months, not only academically but also in our sporting and performing arts areas.

We have had many successes in swimming, rugby and volleyball; both our College Production, 'Back to the 80's' and our Victorian State Schools Spectacular Troupe, have commenced rehearsals; and many students have been rewarded through our School Wide Positive Behaviour Program, for their outstanding efforts in following our SOAR values. Further details of these activities can be found in this Newsletter.

Next Tuesday, 4th April, we will be holding our Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences. There will be no regular classes on this day. The Conferences will be held from 1pm to 8pm and families can book to see their child's teachers through the Compass Portal (bookings are now open and will close at 4pm on Monday, 3rd April). These Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teachers and have a conversation about progress to date and areas for improvement. Students are expected to attend the Conferences with their Parents/Carers. Parents/Carers should contact the office on 5945 1433 if they do not have their Compass login.

Over the holiday period we will be continuing with building works at the College. The Student Well-Being department is being relocated to a more central location and the modification of our science block will be completed to make better use of the existing space.

We farewell three members of staff this term, Emmanuel Merambeliotis, Moka Koka and Evangeline Thevathason.

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, our Assistant Principal, Emmanuel Merambeliotis, will be retiring at the end of this term. Manny has been with Pakenham Secondary College for 17 years and has been a dedicated and exceptional member of the Principal Team.  His contribution to the College has been remarkable and he will be greatly missed by the entire community.

Moka Koka will also be retiring next week. Moka has been a highly regarded member of staff since 2007, not only as a teacher, but as a valued mentor to our Pacific Islander community, including leading our successful rugby team on many occasions.

We wish both Manny and Moka all the best in their retirement.

Evangeline Thevathason, a respected member of our Maths and Science teams is leaving our college next week. We extend to Evangeline our best wishes for the future.

The College would also like to recognise and thank Josephine Hughes, a long serving member of College Council. Josephine has had a number of children come through the school and she has been very generous with giving her time to serve on Council for a number of years. We wish her all the very best for the future.

Please note that with changes to staffing there will be some minor changes to timetables and teacher allotments. These will be communicated at the beginning of next term.

I would like to thank all of our staff, students and parents for a great start to the year and wish everyone a relaxing and safe Easter break.

Regards,

Kate Logan
