Changes to Assessment and Reporting for 2023

Progress Reports

Last year throughout Term 4, Heathmont College conducted a review of our Assessment and Reporting procedures. In line with our school values of Curiosity, Compassion and Community, we wanted to provide feedback not only on academic growth but also the growth and development of interpersonal skills that are essential elements of successful workforce participation in the future.

As a lead school in the Maroondah Positive Education Network, we embody a positive climate for learning and set high expectations for all members of our community. Together with the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) matrix we have developed to reinforce our positive, safe and supportive learning culture at the school on a day-to-day basis, we would also like to share with the parent community how well your child is upholding our values.

New Progress Report prompts for feedback on student attitudes and behaviours (Year 7 – 12)

  • Demonstrates curiosity by being organised
  • Demonstrates curiosity by persisting with their learning
  • Demonstrates compassion by being kind to everyone
  • Demonstrates compassion by being inclusive of others
  • Demonstrates community by valuing learning spaces
  • Respects the right of others to learn in class

The Progress Reports will be marked against an ‘Always, Usually, Sometimes, Rarely or Not Shown’ indicator and will be reported on for all classes including Mentor Group, as well as for student’s participating in the Sports Academy and Instrumental Music programs. There will be two Progress Report cycles sent out throughout the semester with a third cycle of feedback as part of the Semester Reports.

Additionally, the Progress Reports will have a graphic display to demonstrate how well students are able to sustain their efforts across the semester/year. The first cycle of Progress Reports will be posted in Compass at the end of the school day on Tuesday 14th March

Common Assessment Tasks

The school is also shifting how we report and give feedback on Assessment Tasks throughout the semester. For all common assessments completed in each class, your child will receive both a grade related to their performance and a grade related to their effort/behaviour across the topic. Feedback on the task will be provided against criteria in rubric form, which will assist students in seeing what next steps to take in order to improve their performance on future tasks. These rubrics can be found attached to the individual Learning Tasks and will open in a pop-up window for viewing.
