This is a friendly reminder that work experience this year will take place on Monday 19th - Friday 23rd June 2023.

In order to secure work experience, you must complete the following and return to Megan Penn, Work Experience Coordinator:

- Planning Sheet, Additional arrangement form (found on the last page) if you need a copy of the booklet please see Megan.

- SAFE@WORK Module (GENERAL and an INDUSTRY SPECIFIC)

It is imperative that you start researching and looking for viable work experience locations as soon as possible as student’s Planning Sheeting for work experience are due the last week of Term 1.

If you are finding this difficult, please contact either the Careers Teams or Megan Penn in the senior school office or email workexperience@gisbornesc.vic.edu.au. This will be one of the best possible experiences you can have in the area that you are most passionate in.

Senior School Report

Nearly at the end of Term 1 and what a busy time it has been for us all!

The Year 10 students are coming to terms with life in Senior School. The building pressure does feel different, and it is normal for some students to struggle in this period of the year. It is important to start developing a routine of study and downtime as this will set them up for success in the future.

Year 11 students doing the Presentation Ball this term have been frantically practicing their dance steps for tomorrow and Saturday night. Senior School will be present both nights and we are excited to see all the students and families there.

Year 12’s are well on their way into their final year at GSC. Already the pressure is rapidly mounting. The message from us in Senior School is to be supportive to these young people. We firmly believe in a balanced approach to this big year of secondary education.

I would like to extend a big thankyou to the staff and students who made the Year 10 and 11 Welcome Night possible on Tuesday 14 March. The feedback was positive especially for our student representative panel. Thank you for your attendance.

I would also like to congratulate the newly appointed members of the SRC who will be presented alongside the 2023 Captains tonight at the GSC Investiture Ceremony.

The GSC Merit system was launched at the commencement of this term with staff jumping on board and acknowledging students for their positive contribution to college life. The merit system is built on the college values of Respect, Achievement, Innovation and Diversity. Students have been, and will continue to receive, acknowledgement in a four-tiered point system being Self (1 point), Peer (2 points), Team (3 points) and College (4 points).

In the upcoming Senior School assemblies, the newly developed Merit High Achiever Award will be presented to the top 5% of merit recipients per year level. These students have demonstrated excellence in their commitment to college life and academic outcomes. Congratulations to these students!

In term 2, the Captains and Student Representative Council will be gathering feedback from the students to identify the rewards component for the merit system. Just like its own economy, the merit points will be a currency for purchasing rewards that have a positive influence on students. Keep an eye out for updates on this process!

If there are any members of the college/local community who would like to get behind the merit system and become sponsors, please contact Christopher Hewitt at Christopher.Hewitt@education.vic.gov.au. GSC wants to strengthen our connection with the local community through the merit system and encourage parents/guardians to contact us with any ideas or offerings.

Kind Regards
