RAID Yr9 Program

RAID - Respect, Achievement, Innovation, Diversity

Week 3 RAID report, written by Juniper D

Morrisby

The Morrisby tests will help us learn what we want and can do in life and what path we can take to make our future happen.

Respect - We had to understand that everyone was testing and that we had to be quiet so that everyone can try and do their best.

Achievement - In most of the topics we tested for I got a high score. I was most proud of the mechanics score since I don’t enjoy or do much of that.

Innovation - Some of the patterns and questions made you think outside the box and look at it from a different angle.

Wheelchair Basketball

Basketball Australia visited our school and took time to teach us how to play basketball while sitting in a chair. They taught us how to move around, pick the ball up, dribble and shoot.

Respect - We had to listen to the instructors Damien, Eliza and Britney and respect the chairs and equipment.

Achievement - I learnt a lot of new skills but the one I was the best at was picking up the ball, I don’t know why it was so satisfying to feel as the wheel lifted the ball up to your hand.

Innovation - Often we had to think about how we would move around and what wheel to push, when we played a game, our team had to work together and think of strategies.

Diversity - Having rules to allow disabled people play a popular game is inclusive and a nice thing, we spent the hour learning what it is like for those who can’t walk.

City Preparation

In this period our class spent the time getting preparations ready for our next RAID Day when we will go to the MCG. This includes directions and who we are going with.

Respect - When the teacher was giving instructions we had to listen.

Other values - This period didn’t use too many of the school values, but we did need to communicate and take charge, so we won’t get lost when we go into the city by ourselves. When this day comes, we will face many problems and it is good that we had this period so we can know what we can expect, and deal with as many problems earlier on.

NAPLAN Assembly / SRC Meeting

During the NAPLAN assembly me and my friends went to the SRC (Student Representative Council) meeting instead. We had a responsibility, and this was the first meeting we were able to go to so I’m going to talk about that instead.

Respect - Everyone on the representative council gets a chance to speak and say what’s on their mind, when others are talking, we are expected to listen and add on to it after if we feel like it.

Diversity - The members on the SRC are of all ages, genders and races. Everyone there seems to get along and everyone is accepting.
