Principals Report

- Sarah Rose, Principal

Another packed edition of the College newsletter that provides an insight into the volume of activity occurring across the school.

It’s been wonderful to see our Student Representative Council (SRC) established with many enthusiastic students nominating for a position on the council this year.  I’m looking forward to hearing their ideas now that they are starting to formally meet as a group.  This evening I will have the pleasure of formally investing our SRC and College Captains to their roles at the College Investiture Ceremony. We will also present the Ray Ohlsen Perpetual Scholarship and Year 7 scholarships at this ceremony.  This evening is always a highlight for me on the College Calendar.

In recent weeks we’ve held Welcome Events for our senior year students and families and tomorrow and Saturday we will see some of our Year 11 students hit the dance floor with their Presentation Balls at Melrose Receptions.

Last week was Clean Up Australia Day and it was great to see so many students out in the yard with their gloves, and sacks helping to tidy the schoolyard.  I enjoyed spending time myself out in the yard cleaning up litter and engaging with students on my travels.

There’s been an abundance of sporting activity already this year, with the College Swimming Sports held at Lancefield Memorial Swimming Pool, Division Swimming, Cricket and Tennis teams all heading out to participate in their respective competitions.

We conducted an emergency evacuation drill last week which saw the entire school evacuated from their classrooms and working spaces to the designated locations on the basketball courts. This drill, which is part of our regular emergency preparation and planning, went exception well with students diligently following instructions of their teachers.  We will continue to run various types of drills throughout the year to ensure our processes are clear and well established and students and staff are familiar with them.

Our Capital Works Program is now moving into the build phase which is really exciting for the College but also comes with its logistical challenges.  You can read more about this later in this edition in the dedicated Capital Works Program section.

Over the next few weeks we move into the NAPLAN testing period for Years 7 and 9 students, see our Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Education students head out on camp and we prepare for Parent/Teacher Interviews on Wednesday 5th April.  Further details will be sent to families closer to the time.
