Walk and Wheel Wednesdays

Walk and Wheel Wednesdays is a whole school activity, with each class trying to have the most students either walking, wheeling or taking public transport to school.  The winning class is awarded the Shoe Cup Trophy at each assembly.   For those families who live far away from school, they can drive and walk some of the way.

Salote in FSR and her mother Lauren riding on their aqua electric bike to school.  There are so many different ways to walk and wheel to school!

As well as your class winning the prestigious Shoe Cup Trophy there are other benefits to walking or wheeling to school such as:

  • Walking and riding bikes is a form of exercise that helps keeps our body and mind healthy and strong
  • Is an excellent opportunity to learn and practice road safety.
  • Reduces pollution into the air and traffic build up around the school

3/4R has been writing sensational poems to encourage students to walk and wheel to school

Walk and Wheel is fun under the sun,

but any weather is just fine.

Rain has no pain.

Just an umbrella and off you go.

Poem by Heidi 3/4R

Walk and Wheel makes you feel something extraordinary.

Ride, scoot, wheel go and squeal it is time to go have a meal.

Poem by Micah 3/4R

Students in 1JT have drawn wonderful illustrations of them and their family walking to school

Important Date: Friday 24th March 2023 is National Ride to School Day.

On this day students are encouraged to ride their bike to school. This is to allow students to be active and to raise awareness about protecting our environment. On National Ride2School Day 2022, students across Australia saved 28 tonnes of CO2 by actively travelling to school.

For Ride2School Day to run smoothly it would be wonderful if we could have some parent helpers. On the Friday morning, we will need assistance in two areas.

  • The first is directing and helping students to place their bikes and scooters into the hall.
  • The second is assisting in the coordination of cutting and handing out fruit.

On the Friday afternoon, it would be wonderful to have a couple of parents ensuring that students take home their own bike or scooter. It’s not hard for students to get a little confused when they are tired at the end of a busy week!

All parents who volunteer need to  have their Working with Children's Check.

On Friday the times would be from 8.25 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and then after school at 3.30 p.m.

Please contact Heidi Roast at heidi.roast@education.vic.gov.au if you are interested being a parent helper on the day.
