Incursion

Grade 5s

On Monday the Grade 5s had a whole day incursion in the Library called Crack it! The main focus was to work in teams of 5 in stressful situations. The incursion required problem solving, engineering, communication, collaboration and a great amount of determination. Activities included riddles, building the highest tower with pasta, spelling words backwards and playing the game What am I? Students enjoyed working together with various strengths, making them a marvellous team. Teachers then made a challenge to earn points to motivate the children.

At the end of the day, the team who had the most points would win the prize. Students had learnt how to be a good sport and a leader while having confidence. There are various jobs including the Agent of Unity who calms everyone down in stressful circumstances, the Golden Tongue who spoke for the group, the Almighty Gather who gathered required materials, the Keeper of the Clock who kept track of time and the Numbers Wiz who calculated and problem solved. At the end of the day, students came out with a wide smile on their faces, a open mind and resilience.

Overall, Crack it! was definitely a experience worth while and helped the students remind them of the responsibility of being a leader and a team.

Grade 6s

The year 6’s Lead it incursion

On Wednesday the 15th of February the grade six’s participated in an incursion called lead it run by mini boss. In this incursion the grade 6’s learnt about the important qualities that make a great leader, such as ; teamwork, determination, passion, being a good role model and encouragement. The mini boss representatives names were Scottie J and Carly, they were super friendly, engaging and entertaining.

We started off the incursion with a chance game about guessing the colour of the card pulled out from the deck. This game taught us about honesty and being true to ourselves and others. To win this game you have to be the last one standing and guess all of the correct colours. We then had a brainstorm about some of the qualities that makes a good leader.

Next we had to sort ourselves into groups of 5 or 6, we then had to come up with a team name and pose.

After this we did a personality test, the outcomes where ; shark, which means you are a natural leader, competitive and determined to get what you want, Urchin, which means you are a perfectionist, smart and organised, Whale, which means you are the peacemaker, you put others before yourself and you are kind, Lastly there is Dolphin, which means you are the life of the party, you like to make people laugh and you push aside your responsibilities to have fun. This personality test taught us that everyone is different and unique in their own way.

Then Scottie J and Carly gave each group a small box of dominoes. With these dominoes we had to create a domino run that had to include ; a left turn, a right turn, multiple levels and a surprise feature. This activity taught us about being patient, working as a team, persistence and determination.

We then had to do a puzzle and work together as a whole grade level to complete a big puzzle that says in unity there is strength.

We really enjoyed this incursion and would like to say a big thank you to our teachers for organising this and a thanks to the mini boss representatives : Scottie J and Carly for teaching us how to be an independent, great leader.
