Grade F-1 Miss Bennett

Wow what a crazy couple of weeks we have had in F/1. Some highlights are the Colour Run, our ‘Three Little Pigs’ writing unit, the trip to the Fauna Park, painting our school hay bales, going into our new classrooms for 2023 and meeting our new classroom elf- Jingles!

Our writing has been a big focus this week as we have finished off our writing unit to match the book the ‘Three Little Pigs’. The students had to plan, write and then edit their work to match their learning during the unit. The students created a 5-finger plan of what their story will include in regards to: the characters, the setting, the problem, the solution and the ending. They then created a writing piece to match their plan. To finish off the unit, the F/1 students also wrote a reflection about their learning.

Grade 1-2 Miss Hayes

Writing:

In Grade 1/2 we have been working through our writing unit focused on the text ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We have been looking at character pictures and using adjectives to describe what we see. Our favourite activity from the unit was acting out the story. We hope you love seeing our few action shots!

New Members:

In Grade 1/2 we have welcomed two new members to our class. One is Issac who is in Grade Two and he joined us a couple of weeks ago. The second is Tinsel the Elf who appeared at the end of last week!

Grade 3-4 Miss Stock

Last week we had Mrs Stock’s dad Peter White, come in and chat with the Grade 3/4 students about his much loved racing pigeons. He brought in an egg, a 7 day old, a 3 week old, a 7 week old and a couple of older pigeons to show. The students have been learning about life cycles for Inquiry so they enjoyed seeing what the pigeons looked like in their different stages of life.

To follow up from this, the students had to write an explanation text on the life cycle of a pigeon.

Maths Revision

In maths, the senior class have been revising concepts they have covered throughout the year. They have worked in workshop groups and focused on division, equivalent fractions, estimating and rounding and percentages.

Grade 6 Retreat

The Grade 6 students participated in a spirituality retreat which Kylie Smith from Catholic Education Sandhurst. They explored the qualities they see in themselves, special moments in their lives and reflected on what they have offered in their time at St Patrick’s. They did an amazing job of linking their journey to their Catholic faith and knowledge of scripture. It was a lovely, reflective day for our Grade 6 students to spend together.
