Principal Post

Dear Families,

What a great start to our school year! The students and staff have begun with energy and enthusiasm and I congratulate them for their positive attitudes. It is clear that the students were ready to return to the routines of school life. Without a doubt our wish is that each student will embrace their learning and friendships across the year.  Together we work in partnership to bring out the best in each student. Our Foundation students have had one week of schooling and it is terrific to see them beginning to settle in. For some students transition can be tricky and take some time. For some it is not as easy to get used to the new environment, long days, routines and structures.  If  we can assist you at all please see your child's teacher or members of the leadership team. Our door is always open. We will also contact you should we wish to keep you informed or have a meeting about transition issues.

2023 Theme at SJV  - Light The Way

Our  theme for our school in 2023 is 'Light The Way.' This is particularly relevant given the challenges of the past few years. It calls upon us all to reflect and find ways  across this year, in which we can be people of hope and light for others within our community.  We have spoken about our theme at assemblies and within our classes and  certainly the theme will feature as as we launch our year at our Opening School Mass.  Our Art Specialist Paula Persons has made a special Banner  which we will hang in the foyer of our school to remind us to Light the Way.  We will come back to this theme at various times within our newsletter and communications.

Our thoughts are with you....

To our families who have been affected with the fire damage to their Buddhist Temple in Springvale;  our prayers and hearts go out to you.  We hope that the Temple can be rebuilt soon.

We also keep the people of Turkey and Syria in our prayers following the devastating Earthquakes. Various organisations are collecting donations. Keep an eye out.

Opening School Mass – Friday 10th February 9am

A reminder that you are all welcome to gather with us this Friday 10th February at 9am for our Opening School Mass. It is an important occasion as  we gather as a Faith Community to ask continued blessings for our Parish School and for ourselves and others.

At this Mass we will welcome our Foundation Students, other students new to our community as well as new staff.  We will also issue our Students Captains and Leaders  their badges for 2023. The staff will also be 'commissioned' in our roles.

There will be a Morning Tea for the all Year 6 Leaders and  their parents in the Performing Arts area straight after Mass.

Foundation Parent Information Evening

On Tuesday the 14th of February at 6pm, we will be hosting a Foundation Parent information night in the Performing Arts area.  Students do not need to  attend.  This meeting will go for about 1 hr. We will discuss important information regarding school routines, curriculum and general information. This will be led by the SJV leadership team, along with the Foundation teachers. We encourage all parents to attend this session in order to gain information and a greater insight into our daily routines and learning at school. We will have some question time at the end of the session for any queries that might arise.

We please ask that you send your child's classroom teacher a seesaw message to indicate if you (and or your partner  will be attending) . RSVP is very important.
