INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

Another week has flown past and we are fast approaching the end of the year. With this comes a few frayed nerves and tired bodies leading to some emotional dysregulation. This week’s theme is self-care. It is important to be able to acknowledge how we are feeling and this can be difficult for our young people. As adults we can support by modelling how we notice when we are feeling tired or worried and take positive steps to address this.

The Zones of Regulation can be a great tool for exploring our emotions using colour, with green being the ‘ready to learn’ colour – when we are feeling at our best: calm, happy, focused. Blue is when we are a bit ‘low’ in energy, it could be tiredness or boredom among other things that leads to this. Yellow may be when we are a bit anxious or ‘antsy’ and wriggly. Red is when we are fired up, angry or very excited. Being able to identify which zone we are in and then describe the steps we can take to get back into the green zone can be really helpful. For example, “I’m feeling in the blue zone so I might take a nap or have 15 minutes quiet time reading to get back into green.”

Have a wonderful weekend and give yourselves some TLC!
