YEAR 5 2 X 1 SPORTS

Last Friday, Year 5 students thoroughly enjoyed the first of two sessions of the 2 x 1 Sports program. Students participated in one of the following activities:

  • Rockclimbing (Bayside Rock)
  • Tenpin Bowling (Zone Bowling, Karingal)
  • Tennis (Langwarrin Tennis Club)
  • Karate (GKR Karate).

All these facilities are within close proximity to Langwarrin. Tomorrow will be their final session. Instead of Karate, the students will be going to Input Fitness for a fitness session.

YEAR 6 SURF’N’SUP (Stand Up Paddle)

As a celebration for completing all components of the Year 5 and 6 Water Safety program, students had the opportunity to take part in either Surfing or Stand Up Paddling. Considering the weather we have been experiencing, we were very lucky to have a day perfect for both activities.

Supping was run by Mark from SUP Fit and held at Mothers Beach, Mornington, whilst Surfing was run by Prue from Eastcoast Surf School (Point Leo).

All students loved the experience and experienced success at standing up in both surfing and supping.

Both Mark and Prue have lessons all throughout the summer, so it might be an activity that some students would like to do over the January School holidays.

YEAR 3, 4 AND 5 SWIMMING SPORTS

This week the Year 4 and 5 students participated in the year level Swimming Sports. It was great to see so many students participating for their house and supporting all their peers.

The purpose of this carnival is to:

  • Provide a fun event in which students can apply the skills they have learnt in the school’s comprehensive Swimming program.
  • Give all students an opportunity to be selected for the school Swim Squad. From this squad the school Swim Team is selected.
  • Continually develop the House System. It gives students an opportunity to represent their house and either participate actively in the events or support their team members.

As usual, there was plenty of support from our parents as well.

On Monday, the Year 3 students will have their first experience at participating in the sports. There is no need for students to be nervous. It is all about living our THRIVE values:

  • TRYING their best
  • Being HEALTHY through active participation
  • RELATING WELL  and support their peers
  • Getting INVOVLED
  • ENJOYING themselves

THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL PARENT HELPERS

As the school years draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who have assisted with the running of the sports programs. We are very fortunate to have a school community who values sport in the curriculum and is happy to give up their time to support all our children to ensure the following programs run effectively: Year 6 Water Safety, House Athletics, House Cross Country, Foundation and Year 1 PMP, Year 5 Triathlon and Year 6 Interschool Sport.

Thank you also to the parents who have assisted with the transport of students to many of the sporting venues.

Wishing you all a wonderful family Christmas and a very relaxing and safe holiday; we look forward to your help throughout 2023.
