Year 6 into 7 Transition Day
On Monday 28 November Endeavour College held a transition day to welcome over 130 Year 6 students who will form the 2023 Year 7 cohort. The day was designed to familiarise the students with the College, meet key staff that they will be working with and to provide an opportunity to meet some of their peers for next year. Students were involved in a series of lessons aimed at getting to know one another, team building activities and were also given the opportunity to participate in specialist lessons such as Science, Art, Food Tech, Design Tech, Digital Tech, Music, Drama and PE. There was a real buzz in the air as the students had opportunities to make new friends and enjoy themselves trying new things. The Year 7 teaching staff are looking forward to working with this keen and eager group of students next year.

Year 7-8 STEM Experience
During Week 8, Year 7 and 8 students attended a STEM Big Day Out, hosted by the University of South Australia at the Mawson Lakes Campus. Students split into three groups to experience a range of science, technology and mathematics activities, where their ability to hypothesise, predict and problem solve was tested.
The mathematics session challenged students to identify algebraic patterns in a variety of group activities, including ‘skyscraper sudoku’ and a ‘jumping frog’ analogy. The engineering session saw small groups compete to build the tallest tower with limited materials. The aviation activities allowed students to explore the concept of air pressure, to discover how planes use this phenomenon to fly.
The day concluded with a tour of the campus, where students listened to explanations of the engineering and sustainability projects currently undertaken by researchers at the university.
Continuing to build links with the University of South Australia is an important aspect of our ongoing STEM initiatives at the College. This opportunity allowed students to visit a tertiary institution, experience their facilities and consider the myriad of options available for STEM-based careers in the future.

Significant Individuals Expo
On Wednesday 30 December, Year 7 students presented their Significant Individuals Expo in the Year 7 Space. The exhibit had students research a significant person and create a presentation outlining why their individual is a significant person. Students set up their presentations and shared these to the staff of Endeavour College and parents and families of the students.

Middle Years Concert
On Tuesday 6 December, the Middle Years Concert was held in the Mall at 7pm. The concert was a showcase of the many talented musicians from Year 7, 8 and 9 (plus a few senior who came to support them, including all the Year 12 Music students!)
The night started off with the Middle Years Band, directed by Ruby Mensforth. Other ensembles featured on the night including the Year 8 and 9 class bands directed by Miss Stanley and Mr Wooldridge, the Junior Vocal Ensemble directed by Chelsea Lee Smart and the Big Band, directed by Ruby Mensforth.
Each ensemble performed a set of pieces that they had been rehearsing this term. Some of the highlights included the ‘Traffic Jam Blues’ which featured a simulated traffic jam complete with car horns honking, and a policeman’s whistle. Movie and TV themes also featured, included The Flintstones theme song and the Mission Impossible theme, as well as classic pop hits such as the Final Countdown, California Dreaming, Thriller and All Star.
The Big Band gave some swing to the evening with some jazz standards, including Route 66 and It Don’t Mean a Thing (If it Ain’t Got That Swing).
The night also featured 12 brave soloists, who wowed the audience with their talent and their confidence in getting up in front of 250 people and singing or playing.
As the Music Learning Leader, I was proud to see how far the students have come throughout the year, and to see them cheering each other on throughout the night.

25 Anniversary Project: Kaurna Mural
As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebrations and in recognition of our respect and acknowledgement of our location on Kaurna land, Endeavour College has embarked on a mural project which is substantial in scale and importance.
On a large white wall facing Mawson Lakes Boulevard, we have engaged local artist Shane Cook to produce a mural which represents the land upon which we stand and the past, present and future community. Guided by community members, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families from Endeavour and Connected Schools, old scholars, board members, initial designs have been developed incorporating our local totem, the Black Swan.
Production will start with a smoking ceremony in early 2023, we encourage you to keep an eye out for progress as you drive past.
